“Perfect addition to my pi4. Reduces cables and saves a socket. No issues with noise, although pi lives in the loft so likely will never hear it. Pi powered on first time without issue. No reduction in internet speed (on a 500Mbps line and no difference in speed tests before and after fitting).”
“I had a spare of the original PoE hat around, but once I plugged the SSD into the Pi4 it failed to boot (not enough power). This, however, does the trick just fine. Only 5 minutes to fit, and job done.”
“The Pi PoE+ HAT just freeking worked! I connected using a NetGear 8-port PoE+ unmanaged switch, have the https://thepihut.com/products/10-1-ips-resistive-touch-screen-lcd-1024x600 and the Pi Camera attached to this guy and it works like a charm!”
“Handles all the power I need it to handle and works fine. Has an annoyingly loud coil whine though, so might not be usable if you need something silent.”
“The PoE+ HAT does what it says on the tin. This is a new (to me) design that looks to be a significant improvement over the previous design. It's fantastic value for money!
There are some drawbacks though. Firstly, the board overlaps the display connector, so if you want to use the screen connector then you have to bend the ribbon aggressively with the attendant risk of damaging the ribbon (guess what, I broke one). You lose access to the touchscreen connection on the header, but that was a problem on the earlier PoE HAT too.
Secondly, under some circumstances the board emits a loud, high pitched squeal. My colleagues with younger ears really complain.
Thirdly the fan doesn't come on when the CPU gets hot.”
