“The Pi PoE+ HAT just freeking worked! I connected using a NetGear 8-port PoE+ unmanaged switch, have the https://thepihut.com/products/10-1-ips-resistive-touch-screen-lcd-1024x600 and the Pi Camera attached to this guy and it works like a charm!”
“Handles all the power I need it to handle and works fine. Has an annoyingly loud coil whine though, so might not be usable if you need something silent.”
“The PoE+ HAT does what it says on the tin. This is a new (to me) design that looks to be a significant improvement over the previous design. It's fantastic value for money!
There are some drawbacks though. Firstly, the board overlaps the display connector, so if you want to use the screen connector then you have to bend the ribbon aggressively with the attendant risk of damaging the ribbon (guess what, I broke one). You lose access to the touchscreen connection on the header, but that was a problem on the earlier PoE HAT too.
Secondly, under some circumstances the board emits a loud, high pitched squeal. My colleagues with younger ears really complain.
Thirdly the fan doesn't come on when the CPU gets hot.”
“The POE+ Hat is just what I needed for powering a Pi in a location without a mains electricity socket - a long Ethernet cable provides power (from a POE source) as well as data. The fan makes a bit of a whine when running, but that was only an issue when testing before putting it in its intended location.”
“I bought 2 POE hats. Took them out of the box, attached one to a Pi4B plugged in the ethernet cable from my POE switch and it worked 1st time. I attached the other to a raspberry Pi3B again it just worked. What more is there to say? It is reasonably quiet, the variable speed fan sees to that. I would recommend that anybody considers using a PEO switch together with this HAT. Note that I have another attached to another Pi and was so pleased with the performance One of the new Hats replaced another POE hat that while still working did not perform as well and the fans were much louder.”
“Works well as PoE enabling my Pi4 IOT server and installation is very simple, but the fan is quite whiney, even with a hack to alter the out of the box temperature/speed settings. I've not tried any heat sinks yet, but on the other hand, my Pi is barely breaking into a sweat running my home server code.”
“The hat works very well powering the Pi. However, the fan needs configuring and there is a squealing noise when the Pi powers up, is rebooted and/or shutdown. Minor things but overall very happy and would have no hesitation in buying another.
Delivery was fast, next day I think and everything was well packaged with good communications from ordering and tracking.”
