“I bought this thinking it would work well with the 64bit Raspian beta but it actually performs better with 32bit Raspbian. I'm not upset though, 64bit Raspian is going to be developed and refined and eventually the 8GB will be more useful.”
“Delivered promptly and works very well. Probably don't really need the 8GB version but what the hell I wanted it. Looking forward to the full release of the 64bit OS but the beta version has not caused me any issues so far!”
“Great performance in a little package. This is now running cloud backups for my NAS enclosure as well as running Pi Hole. Still loads of memory for it to use, so I can pile more things onto it yet.
Absolutely worth it over my Pi 3.”
“Great bit of kit, as useful and reliable as all other Raspberry Pi's, but with an extended amount of RAM. Raspberry Pi OS 64 bit is still in Beta so OS compatibility to make use of all the memory is still a bit hit and miss but will certainly improve given time.”
“My RPi4 8GB is running Ubuntu Server 20.04. I use it to host my personal blog, run my LAMP stack, run my GIT server (personal repos), run my home Samba server, and run an OpenVPN server (so it's a gateway to my home network when I'm away from home). I have my root ("/") partition running off a USB 3.0 port with an 2.5 inch SSD attached. Everything is fast and responsive, and works as expected. An amazing SBC that saves me from having to pay a monthly fee for a VPS or "droplet" to do the same things.
I would strongly recommend buying a case with a fan, as without a fan they do run hot.
I'll probably end up with a cluster of RPi4 servers before too long. Very useful small computers.”
