“Upon the release of this new Raspberry PI, I thought I would leave it a few months before buying until any bugs were addressed, well that day arrived and I have my new Pi.
The first task I tried was my Libre Elec setup but I did not see any noticeable difference in speed of operation.Next, I tried Raspian Buster and this is where the Pi4 shined, most applications showed a very noticeable speed increase, but the greatest difference is when using Youtube, no dropped frames 4k output.
The task I had planned for my new Pi will have to wait however, this is Retropie, a retro games emulator, some emulators and games will run on the new Pi but until an optimised version is released I will have to continue to use my Pi 3B+.
All in all, I am happy with the Pi4 4Gb”
“A real upgrade in processing power thanks to the significantly improved I/O and memory performance. Much faster than my (admittedly old) WD NAS that it’s replacing.
Do think seriously about what software you need to run before buying though. I went for the 4GB version but it was definitely overkill. Even with 512MB for the GPU, the combination of OpenMediaVault and Kodi still leaves me with 3000 MB+ free. A 2GB Pi 4 would have been fine for me, as would a 320 or 384 MB GPU split. If you are planning to run headless then the 1GB version may be a good option too, I’d only suggest 4GB if you are planning to run it as a proper desktop PC.”
“I bought this model, raspberry-pi 4, and I received Raspberry-pi 3. I'm waiting for the correct item and I don't know if I'll receive before Christmas.”
