This is my first time using a Pi3 model A+ for a project. I chose this model as my go to device, the Pi Zero 2 W is currently not available to purchase and shows no signs of being available for at least another three or four months. This is the closest model i could find at a reasonable price. This model is running an MMDVM dual HAT for DMR radio as a local hotspot and us working very well. Overall this is a good choice and only increased the cost of my project by £10.

Decided to lock down some prior projects as keepers so needed a new board for what next. The pricing on the 3A is very attractive so went that route. I’ve had one before and the slightly larger form is nice to a 2Zero and it seems to have a bit more go. The full size ports are useful saves the usual adaptors however it’s a shame is not usb c power. For my Python / pico projects it’s been prefect. That was the main reason to purchase. I also liked the new pi desktop that gives a bit of a makeover. It’s not fast but usable on this unlike a 2Zero where it’s just too slow. Don’t expect it to run Chrome or Firefox - that’s just too much for it.

The Raspberry Pi 3a+ is exactly what I needed for my project. Its small footprint and lower cost made it ideal for my more software than hardware requirements.

If you need a smaller factor RasPi with full size USB Pi 3 Model A+ is for you, I use it as a remote USB host with x2go over wlan and works great.
