“I am a bit late in discovering these remarkable devices. With the Microsoft Makebit development environment, I had my own code running on the micro:bit less than 30 minutes after it arrived. The key to that was the built-in simulator, which highlights any unexpected or unintentional code behaviour immediately, meaning that debugging becomes straitforward. Ideal for people of any age with or without previous coding experience, and also gives an immediate path into Python coding. OK, so the on-board ARM device has a 600+ page datasheet, but there is no need at all to refer to that, I was just curious about just how incredible capable the processor SoC was. Astonishing value for money.”

Didn't cost too much and both myself and my nine year old son have had lots of fun programming little programs in MakeCode and Python - both of which are really clear and easy to learn.
