If like me, GPIO pins 1 - 9 are in use by connections to the Official Pi 7" Display, then the module can be placed on pins 17 - 28, with the following line in config.txt:
dtoverlay=i2c-gpio,i2c_gpio_sda=10,i2c_gpio_scl=9”
