“This is an awesome little bit of kit. However, most of the documentation online is out of date. The Raspberry Pi people have updated everything, & now all you need to do is to read /boot/overlays/README - then add a single line to /boot/config.txt as it's all done with Device Tree overlays now - nothing else needed.
# Activate I2C and enable DS3231 RTC
dtoverlay=i2c-rtc,ds3231
That's it.... No faffing around, reboot & you're laughing.”
