“I tried a number of other software sound correction solutions before (e.g. REW, ARC, KRK ergo) but I never got such a precise improvements to my mixing room acoustics.
I like that it is possible to run the correction software as a stand alone app. before I was using a plugin in my DAW, which was always a hassle:
- For any new mixing project you have to place it as the last plugin on the master channel.
- Don't forget to disable it when rendering the mixdown
- there is no correction available for anything that does not come from the DAW.
All these iissues are gone with the SoundID reference standalone app, which allows to optimize the sound of any sound source, as it sits as a virtual audio device before the actual hardware audio device.
It's even possible to upload the sound correction to my RME Fireface soundcard and render the optimizations directly on the soundcard DSP. Works like charm!
First I used purchased the Sound ID software and used one of my stock measurement mics. Since a few days I'm now also a happy owner of an individually calibrated SoundID mic. And this makes a HUGE difference, particular in the sub 50hz frequencies! The low-end is now even more defined than before”
“As professional musician but beginner engineer with a home studio I knew when the sounds were off but I’m still slow at figuring out why they’re off and how to adjust stuff to make it sound better. Multiple studio engineers recommended Sound ID for my little studio and it did not disappoint. The problem areas in my room where not at all in the frequencies I was guessing because they were so much worse than I thought it was and masking a big range of why I was able to perceive as as the problem. The program enabled immediately turned my monitoring from a wrestling match with my EQs to a much more trustworthy setup.”
“If you are going to use SoundID with studio monitors, make sure you get the reference microphone! It was worth it. The ability to switch between different listening environments (car, smartphone, computer speakers) is great for hearing what your mix will sound like in real-world scenerios. And once I had the monitors dialed in using the reference mic, it brought out detail that i couldn't hear before.”
“It has completely revived my studio monitors and made me want to listen to all the music I love again. It is really a game changer for video editors and people who work with audio.”
“This Sonarworks SoundID reference tool is indispensable. I have a partially treated room and my monitors sounded decent (Focal EVO 50s), but after going through the calibration and hearing the results, the difference was not only immediately apparent, it was something I would never want to go back from. The pleasant coloration on the monitors went unnoticed, and I didn't realize how much of that coloration was blurring parts of the sonic spectrum - parts that I unknowingly wasn't hearing during mixing. Once the coloration was removed, I felt like I had a brand new pair of reference monitors that were twice the price and I could now hear those pockets of frequencies that were not audible before. The purchasing process was straightforward and simple.”
