So from the outset, I love this watch, no question. However I’m still getting used to it and the app to get the best out of it. Probably three reasons why 4* - It takes so long to find the satellite you have to remember almost when you arrive at the course to prepare it. Secondly, I find the app and desktop a little fiddly especially as there are usually issues with recording every shot, that I hope will come. Finally, I still find myself wearing my Garmin, mainly because of my virtual caddy and the display is much better.

I have used my V6 for about 8 rounds by now and love it over Arcos, which I tried and sent back as it performed miserably and was not going to pay for a subscription! I think the first thing is that the brightness of the v5 could be improved upon as I would never wear this watch during the day or after playing golf. It needs to be brighter, but in the sunlight, it works well while playing golf. Every round I am missing some shots and have to go in and make corrections. I carry a score card with me and record my clubs used on each hole so that I can straighten things out on my computer. I am not certain if this is due to my mistakes and not checking if each club used is on the watch before I hit or not, so I am not blaming the watch, just yet. I am improving on my use of the device, but my biggest problem is if I end up taking a penalty stroke, I do not try to add this during the round, but wait until after and for some reason, then I have a scorecard issue on the watch. If I look down to see where I stand to par, I see an !, which means the score on the watch is screwed up somehow and I have to manually go back and try to correct things. That is becoming a very bad and consistent issue. (I know, don't lose or hit a ball in an unplayable lie). What I do like is the hazzard distance and the green view on the watch. I bought this to track my stats and after I do much editing, I am getting what I wanted (data), but I am having to work for it. Once again, this could be me and my getting use to using the instrument, but on the other hand, it could be the watch and I will reserve my overall opinion, until later. I actually thought of buyine a demo X5 for a brighter view of the watch and the ability to touch over buttons. However, that seems like duplication and I need to perfect what I have before moving on.

Having used a handheld GPS for several years, I was surprised at how much better the V5 was. It has improved my game with its accurate information and helps with my visualisation of the shots needed on any hole. A game improver for sure as well as being a decent looking watch.

The small text on the watch is too small. Not very good in sunlight. Why is it software engineers don’t think, keep it as simple as possible.

I had the V3 until the screen no longer worked after 2 years and 200+ rounds. I thought the V3 had the perfect amount of features except it didn’t have a step counter. The V5 design is more stylish and slightly more comfortable. The size is about the same as V3, which was perfect for me. I love the step counter so I don’t need to carry my phone to get that count and enter is manually in my phone. I don’t get the hole maps and the green views. Not sure why anyone would spend the time to manually move the pin around in their watch. If this is important for some users, why do it thru the phone app where is can be more easily done (maybe before the round if pin sheets are available) and then integrate with the watch. Seems like a waste of energy especially given the hole maps are on the app and much easier to read. Instead, I would prefer having the range finder integrated with the watch so that when I get the flag distance, the distance to the hole can be reflected on the watch and, the pin location can be set. No more needing to use the pin collect feature. Garmin does this and it looks amazing. Selling an integrated solution would get customers to buy the watch and range finder. Overall, I think shotscope is still the best value for GPS watches with shot tracking.

Used my V5 on the course and I can honestly say it boosted my confidence on each shot. It gives you a better idea of where on the hole you really are. It’s unobtrusive and intuitive, and combined with the tags that provide absolutely fantastic stats, its the complete package.
