Very disappointed with the quality of this item especially considering the price. The shape does not quite hug the bumper, leaving a slight gap at the sides. The edging, which you have to fit yourself, does not want to bend around the plinth and even with the addition of quite a lot of glue it is gaping at the sides. The fixings supplied with the plinth went into the holes in the bumper and immediately fell out again so we had to use screws and rawlplugs to fit it. Because the fittings on the old one broke when we took it off we were forced to fit this cheap piece of plastic on order to have a number on the front of the car, but my husband spent most of the evening wrestling with it. When I emailed to complain I was offered a refund provided it was unused and still in its original packaging even though I clearly stated that we had been forced to fit it. Very unimpressed both with quality of item compared to the price, and with the don't care attitude to customer service.

The plinth is reasonable quality, but a slightly different design to the original one on my 1998 Mk2. It was a perfect fit, BUT only if fitted about an inch lower than the original. I didn\'t want to drill new holes in the nosecone of my car, so I used the bottom edge of the old plinth as a template and scored the bottom edge of the new one about a dozen times with a craft knife and was able to make a clean break. With the shape now the same as the old one, I was able to get an excellent fit. The screw holes are a few mm closer than the holes on the old one, and the supplied fittings are as much use as a chocolate teapot, but with careful insertion of a pair of 40mm screws (using the supplied inserts) it screwed on firmly. The rubbery trim strip only goes around the top and sides, but makes for a good fit and a decent finish. Overall, a good product at a very good price, but be prepared to spend some time tinkering to get good fitting. You will need decent fitting screws!Editors Note: Thanks for your comments. The reason there may have been a slight difference between the one you took off and the one we supplied is that these were added to the cars by Mazda Europe at the point they were sold, and not by the factory. During that time they change the supplier and in turn the design slightly so the ones we supplied are based on one of these two versions. It does also account for why the holes sometimes don\'t line up as the were fitted at the dealership and any holes in the bumper were drilled by hand at that point.

I agree with other reviewers that the plastic is rather brittle and cracks very easily. The problem with mine was that one of the two plastic fitting plugs broke and I found the plinth rattling around (resulting in some cracking around the fixing hole). This is a real pain if, like me, you have fitted your plates with double sided tape for a nice neat finish - they are a bu**er to get off again just to refix the plinth. If you get one of these I suggest you do as I've ended up doing - buy a couple of long M6 bolts (around 50mm is OK) and drill right through the innder skin of the front bumper. This way you can fit a nut on the inside (I used nyloc nuts to be safe) and fit the plinth nice and snug. Resist the tempation to overtighten!

Would agree with the majority of puchasers of this product, actual plinth is passible but the fixings are not fit for purpose.Anyone that is thinking of replacing theirs should first purchase 2 plasterboard metal cavity wall fixings as the fixings provided tend to shatter with very little pressure

Purchased one of these and received very quickly However I must agree with the other reviews that the fixings supplied with this do not hold the plate on securely .I found the best way to attach was to use some plaster board raw plugs which I inserted into the holes and then use screws to attach firmly

The number plate plinth isn't a perfect fit but I have fitted mine to my MX-5 MK1 and it looks great.I was replacing the 21 year old rusty metal bracket type number plate mount.I didn't use the supplied fittings as I felt they wouldn't hold the new plinth securely enough.Instead I drilled holes in the front bumper and through the solid plastic bumper frame behind it, and attached the number plate plinth with flat head bolts, washers and nuts. The head of the bolt fits nicely into the recess in the plinth so it doesn't touch the back of the number plate. The supplied rubber strip fits along the top of the plinth and down both sides. It doesn't go all the way round. I would suggest this should be glued on to the plinth before starting the job to stop it from moving. My number plate plinth is held nice and securely to the front of the car and the gaps between it and the bumper are very narrow.Although I agree that it would be better if the plinth was designed more accurately to fit the shape of the bumper my new number plate plinth looks much better than the old one.

Not happy with the plinth - delivery was excellent though. V bad quality - I had to use a drill-bit to elongate the holes so that they fit properly. Then I had to superglue the seal into place(it is not a pliable rubber seal, it is tough and likely to split). It also does not fit the body of the car very well. Not a patch on the original MX5 MK2.5 part. Would have sent back except needed to fit it badly. Cannot work out how someone can produce such an awful replica of the plinth - not worth £5. It's a shame as the delivery was v good.
