About Mooncup:

Mooncup began with a clear goal: to give people a healthier, sustainable way to manage their periods.

Back in 2002, we launched the world’s first medical-grade silicone menstrual cup, pioneering a movement that put health and the planet first. We saw an industry where profit came before people, ingredients were hidden, and plastics reigned, so we challenged the status quo.

Now, we're on a mission to become the world’s biggest sustainable period care brand. We’ve just launched Mooncup period pads into Sainsbury’s, Boots, Holland & Barrett and Look Fantastic. We’re also partnering with workplaces, gyms and hotels (like Canva, Danone, Third Space, Gymshark and Claridge’s) to offer free period care in bathrooms.

We use only science-backed, body-safe ingredients because your period products should work with your body, not against it.

I really do like my Mooncup and it feels really natural and just generally safer to use than tampons. It is also less painful to use than tampons when you’ve got a lighter flow at the beginning/end of your period.I’ve used it for one menstrual cycle now. My only issue is I seem to be having small leaks in the night, I’m not sure I’m positioning it 100% correctly - but with a panty liner in there was no mess regardless! I willl carry on trying to see if I can nail the technique because I really like my Mooncup! One piece of advice I’d give however is don’t trim the stem immediately - as it naturally elivates in the vagina quite a few cms after you place it in, so unfortunately I trimmed mine a bit short (can still remove it and put it back in - but would be easier if the stem was a bit longer as it relieves the suction when you grasp it).

So I will divide my review into two, a review of the product and a review of the process. I bought this as I thought I had lost my old one after going on a trip but it turned out I misplaced it, so now I have two!THE CUP- It comes in a handy fabric bag for you to hygienically store it in when you're not using it.- You need to adjust the nib at the end of the cup which is there to help you locate it to remove it. You might need to mess around a couple of times to get this right - i found that I had to cut the entire thing off for it to sit comfortably.- It's easy enough to clean after you have finished your period, some people have different ways of doing it, but I bought some sterilizer tablets and soak it after I use it (or sometimes before I need to use it if I was lazy!)- I've had it about a year now and it has retained its colour and shape and generally has suffered from no real wear and tear, so I can't imagine I would need to replace it for some time yet.THE PROCESS- I won't spend this review telling you why mooncups are better than tampons or pads, as I think this is a personal decision and your preference. However i will say, if you CAN use the mooncup then you should try it at least once so you know what options are out there. There is nothing scary about using this product, and it's no more difficult than using a tampon.- You'll need to work out the best way of folding it so it sits comfortably; you won't work this out the first time straight off, find out what works for you as there are a few different ways to fold it to get it to expand properly. It might feel weird at first to feel it kind of "pop" into place but you'll get used to this and if anything it reassures you that you've got it in there OK!- You can confidently go through your day without having to remove the cup. Initially I checked on it every 4 hours or so but once you get to know the volume of the cup and what your flow is like you can obviously work out how often you'll have to empty the cup.- Emptying the cup is probably the part most people dread, but it's surprisingly no worse than dealing with a messy tampon or pad. I usually dump the contents in the toilet and then wipe the cup down with TP before cleaning up and popping it back in again. I find this the easiest way of doing it, especially when out in public as it means you don't have to worry about going to a sink to wash anything away. Some people like to take a bottle of water in the toilet and clean it out with that, but I find it complicates matters too much and becomes a bit of a balancing act while you're in the loo.- You really don't feel like it's there after a while and it doesn't have the side-effects that come with tampons and pads (drying out, leakage, mess everywhere in the night etc.)I can't think of any downsides to using this product. Yes, it's messy, but so is every other option out there! This product will save you time and money and give you back your freedom.

I love my mooncup and all the benefits of using it. I was especially drawn to using something that was environmentally friendly and I wouldnt have to change very often. I have been using my mooncup for almost a year now and have found the removal increasingly challenging and painful even though I am using the same method of removal. Apart from that an amazing cup that works great and I would thoroughly recommend.

This has been one of the best and most useful products I have bought in a long time. It does take a couple of cycles to get totally used to but it is definitely worth it and has been a large positive change that makes me feel more positive about my period (every little helps!). I love making a difference to the environment, and it's worth pointing out that it is easy to clean, has a cute wee bag to carry it around in, and after four cycles using this it takes 5-10 seconds to insert or remove (even with false nails or when drunk, it feels that simple!) and, when inserted correctly, you wont feel a thing. I have to make a conscious effort to remember I'm wearing it sometimes. I cut the stem off entirely, which worried me at first but once you get used to it you will likely not need a stem at all. Try the different techniques until you find one that you find easiest.I would not recommend for girls who have only recently started their periods but rather for women who have had them for some time. I would also recommend using lubricant when you begin using this product, but if you try the techniques recommended for inserting you will likely be surprised how much easier it is then you would expect.

So I have bought this as i wanted to be "healthier". This was not as big as I thought it would be. It is definitely a silicone funnel lol. I find the rim very thick, which is a downside as i can feel it when I'm putting it in because its new and very rigid. However, the rim is necessary as it provides the grip and hold inside. I did not have to trim the tip as it fits me quite fine inside my body. I recognized from using this that my flow is absolutely different to what i thought it was on the pad. In colour, texture, quantity and scent, apologies if this it too graphic but all of those features are a lot better with this. I would not recommend this for someone who is not comfortable touching themselves or is a virgin as it would be difficult to use. Also it might be an issue if your not happy having to wash this in a public bathroom after emptying the contents in the loo. We have bathrooms with wash basin and toilet in the same cubicle at work so this works for me. I did not have any problems with leakage or this falling out, neither did i feel it when its inside. When taking it out, you definitely need to pull the base and not the tip to release the suction. Pulling the tip will just pull the cup which is latched onto your cervix, that is an uncomfortable feel and slightly painful. My reason for having a love/hate relationship with this is whilst is does work putting it in is a bit rough and you need to find the right position to do so.

I had been contemplating using a mooncup for years, but always worried about it feeling uncomfortable, falling out, leaking and just generally afraid of trying something new.I did my research and followed the advice given on their website. And I have to say, I'm gad i finally switched over. When inserted properly, you feel nothing, exactly the same as a tampon and it holds more than a tampon normally would. My only gripe is that it only works when sitting or standing upright. When lying down, it leaks after a couple hours.but that is easily resolved by using the mooncup during the day when out and about, and a tampon at night when sleeping. So, for me, it doesn't eliminate the use of tampons completely. Merely reduces the number used drastically.

I bought this on a next day delivery as, you know, the "time" was right, and I wanted to test it straightaway. I wasn't sure which size to order as I'm 43 but I haven't had children and am quite petite at 5ft 2. In the end I opted for size B which has turned out to be perfect.Initially the size of it freaked me out a bit but after a few strategic folds it was just like inserting a tampon. I left the stem at first because I wanted to see if it would bother me and it did, so I ended up trimming that to halfway and after that I couldn't feel the cup at all. I was sceptical as other reviews mentioned problems with leaks so I also wore a pad but every time I checked, there hadn't been any leakages for me. I have worn it in the shower, to the gym, and overnight and have not had any problems with it.I have a water-based training course coming up which falls on my heaviest days and going to the toilet every 1-2 hours to change a tampon or wearing a pad isn't going to be possible. I'm also travelling later in the year and have various trips planned while I'm there and again, I may not have access to a toilet as often as I need to on my heaviest days. I feel like the Mooncup has given me some freedom to concentrate on my course without worrying if my tampon has flooded and left me with stained clothes or a stained chair. My tips would be:- Wet the Mooncup and your hands before inserting- See if it feels uncomfortable wearing with the stem before deciding to trim- Remember that when removing the cup it will come out in the unfolded position. After a few uncomfortable battles trying to remove it, I've now managed to fold it slightly upon removal so it's not as uncomfortable.- When removing I bear down and after locating the stem I pull down by the base of the cup as this gives better grip and control. Sorry if that's TMI!I thought about buying the Mooncup a few years ago but didn't bother as I didn't think it would be any good. Now I really wish I had as it feels like I have some control over my period. If you're on the fence about buying it please just go for it. You won't have to buy tampons/pads anymore and so you won't be paying the "tampon tax" either. It's better for the environment and there's no nasty pesticides like those associated with cotton sanitary products :-)

I thought I'd try an give a realistic review for first time users of the moon cup, which i was one week ago!The cup actually works! It doesn't sit quite so low as it states in the instructions but as the forums have said, the instructions were probably written by men. The cup naturally rides up and the higher it is the less you can feel it - which is nothing at all for me. Putting it in just requires a gentle push and a jiggle of the hips and voila! It is scary the 1st/2nd/3rd time of taking it out as it feels like it's gone too far up but a gentle finger and relaxing solves it all. So do not cut the plastic stick thing until really necessary as it comes in handy for pulling out the cup.In terms of leakages which i was worried about, it is fine for the beginning and end to only remove, clean and replace every 8 hours but in your heavy day/days, every 3-4 hours is a must as blood may start to seep through the suction holes. I wore a panty liner to assess how i needed to act with my moon cup in the future. When inserting the cup you will hear a noise and that generally means it's sucked on tightly to the vaginal walls which means no leak unless its over full. It's revolutionary for me, i never agreed with tampons so to be able to go swimming, have little odour and be generally cleaner is fab. Of course, the health of the world is helped and your wallet remains closed every month for years. This is after my first period with the moon cup
