Humax HDR-1800T 500GB Freeview HD Recorder Reviews

Two issues prevent me giving this 5 stars. I liked the box very much but the subtitles were out of sync with the picture and, at one point, the sound disappeared both for live TV and playback. I fixed the latter by rebooting everything. Humax was very good in agreeing to allow me to return the box and give me a refund. So, I haven't had the box long enough to know whether the sound issue would return regularly or not.

Good value for money. Performance is reliable with a good tuner where signal strength is poor and delivers good picture quality. There are a few negative issues however: The red indicator lamp is used to show both recording and standby modes which is confusing. On startup, the configuration process is slow and disjointed with the TV to display the chosen mode. It is not possible to access live TV without activating the Humax recorder.

Although I had 2 previous HDR-1800T's with smaller HDs which were useful as PVRs but limited and 'clunky' for online iPlayer, this current model was faulty and kept stopping from functioning. It had to be returned.

As elderly people, we couldn’t manage our smart tv but now we can record and watch when we like. It works very well.

The Humax HDR-1800T 500GB does its basic job very well. However there are a few extras that I think it needs. The first is to be able to play earlier programmes even though they haven’t been recorded. This could be for a few channels, chosen by the owner, for just one days schedule. In other words, it records the programmes but does not show them as recordings. They are chosen from the programme guide and automatically deleted after 24 hours. Another thing that would be helpful would to be able to extend recording time before and after the scheduled times to allow slight variations in broadcast time.
