“Tried a few products on the basis of specifications on paper. All have underperformed (except for one beanie, which proved decent). Sizing is all over the place (two different hats in S, one was like a vice the other loose and baggy). Sealskinz is not alone in being an allegory of modern design and manufacturing - obsessed with paper spec because it makes for good marketing, but ends up with a product that does nothing well. Also, it is time we acknowledged that “made in Britain” is a sign of low quality, because the country has strived for decades to rid itself of manufacturing and has succeeded in doing so, for the most part. As a result domestically manufactured goods, from “advanced” technical clothing (Sealskinz) to espresso machines (Fracino) to air filters (Medicair) are decidedly of average quality and low value for money. I would love to see this situation change, but this is the truth for now I’m afraid”
