“We had a lovely stay at Gudjem. the house was clean and comfortable and it was a great space for our group of 5 adults and a child - having two living room spaces was especially good. The location was also brilliant, with such easy access to the town and the shops and the beach. There are a few very minor issues - a downstairs hot tap that didn't work, one shower with broken buttons and another with low water pressure - but that could be fixed. Overall, though, it was very good and we would definitely come back again.”
“When we got there, the toilet wasn't working. Then the reception and restaurant was shut for 2 days the stuff was very unfriendly I was really disappointed with this hoilday.”
“As one of my sons said, shabby chic. We enjoyed our stay - in warm, sunny weather where we had the run of the cafe's garden after it closed at 1500. The house is well equipped, but in need of some significant attention to windows and floors, and to the entrance door which could not be latched properly because of sagging. The grandchildren enjoyed the mud kitchen.”

“The cottage and garden were as beautiful as advertised. We spent as much time as possible outside and ate there every day. The whole area is spectacular and we loved Bakewell and Hathersage. The hosts were friendly and helpful - their dog provided plenty of entertainment.”

“Amazing place to stay! Me and my partner stay in Southdown, there were 3 pods in total. When we arrived the owner came out and shows us to the pods and had a chat and he was really nice and welcoming, facilitates were 10/10, bbq, hot tub, outdoor seating, air con, and bed was really comfy! Plenty of things to do also whether it’s activities or places to visit and walk round like Yorkshire wildlife safari park, clumber park & rufford abbey and Bakewell isn’t too far away if you fancied a famous Bakewell tart! Would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a weekend or week away! We stayed 7 days and wish we would’ve stayed another 7…”
“Chine Cottage was excellent. Very convenient location, just across the road from the beach. Also very well equipped with a number of helpful features including off-street parking, and use of the integral garage was handy for storage of beach equipment and drying of swimwear on the airer. Sandsend is a great family holiday destination with a safe beach, and good cafes and eateries, though sadly no local everyday shop – but the shops in Whitby are very close by car or regular bus (or even a walk along the beach). Our extended family (children and grandchildren) had other accommodation in the village while we (the older ones) enjoyed Chine Cottage, with its three en-suite bedrooms, and well equipped kitchen diner – though we often ate outside on the front patio thanks to the good weather. And a special word of thanks to the kind and efficient staff at the Hart Inn who accommodated our extended family for a special combined evening meal. Good food too. And a recommendation for the food at the Fish Cottage as well.
The only minor issue was the uncomfortably warm front second floor bedroom due to (uninsulated?) hot water tank and pipes in the bathroom with, for some reason, pockets of warm underfloor heating still on. The instructions in the folder were too complicated to identify the problem but the Sykes staff were very helpful with advice. A bit more simple info would be useful.
Apologies for not signing the guest book. An oversight. In truth we hardly used the lounge because of the good weather and time spent with family on the beach or in the cafes or exploring beyond the village. So when packing up we didn’t go back into the lounge and forgot to sign the book till we got home.

“Found the accommodation outstanding. All the facilities with the property were an asset during the holiday with 6 people in the house.
The views are of the hillsides from the front of the property were excellent.
The town itself was small but interesting to look around with the many eateries and drinking locations.

“We had the most wonderful stay in the most peaceful setting, just what we needed. We were made incrediably welcome in the most beautiful home, and the welcome packs for the dogs were amazing and very much enjoyed. We've never stayed anywhere where the dogs have been made so welcome. Children were delighted to see deer and foxes. Will definately be a return visitor.”
“Sykes cottages offers a good range of properties. Sykes cannot manage problems whilst property is occupied. The company email box is constantly full and the phone system puts you through so many options it is worthless.”
