I first came to South East Hearing as I wanted a second opinion and advice on how to control the build up of ear wax. I was informed at the first few meetings that by avoiding the traditional syringe method and using the micro suction technique that the number of times I would need to have the wax removed would be reduced. Sad to say that last Monday, whilst I received an appointment very swiftly, which I am always grateful for, water was used in my ear. You had always said that this increases the build up of wax, Friday I started with general ear discomfort which according to the aftercare information should be minor and pass quickly. Sunday I had to contact the out of hours GP service and travel to Haywards Heath to receive urgent primary care. Prescribed Ciprofloxacin 0.3% and Co-Codamol. Sad to say the Doctor could not see my ear drum. I understand that Rob is taking more of a strategic view on hearing, but that does not appear to be the case for wax build up. Instead of coming less, I am encouraged to come more, but on this occasion I feel let down as I am back to square one with reduced hearing. Whilst I appreciate it was quicker, only 30 minutes for an ear syringe, the cost to perform the procedure was the same. I appreciate that it does take you a long time to remove the wax by micro suction, but isn't that deemed safer? I think that the question that you should be asking yourselves is "What went wrong?" As a model patient who is trying to manage a situation; I no longer swim, or have contact with water other than daily hygiene and avoid putting any drops in the ear. However none of this has made any difference as you could work out by how regular my visits still are. So disappointed.
Helpful Report
It is very disappointing to have received a review like this from a long time patient who has visited us on numerous occasions. Our clinic staff pride themselves on being very friendly and work hard to ensure that our patients are fully informed about their treatments. On receiving this review we immediately contacted the patient to resolve the issues, unfortunately at this time she has not yet replied to our messages. While we will always state our preference for using Micro-suction as it is by far the better way for removing wax from the ears, there may on occasion, be a need to support this with the use of irrigation as this helps remove any smaller leftover deposits or high viscosity wax that may cling to the canal wall.
