“Have really enjoyed my 1st 2 books and reading the online discussion even though I haven’t joined in. It has encouraged me to choose books I might ordinarily have overlooked and definitely pushed my boundaries. I’m unsure about my 3rd book though - definitely wouldn’t have chosen it and the source of the reviews on the covers ( magazines mostly ) puts me off ( the alternative choice I already owned unfortunately!) so am bit disappointed and looks less “ literary “ than I had expected .”

“I enjoyed my three month subscription with Rarebirds. The only downside was that two out of three were American authors, I'd have preferred more variety and also quite short. But I'd definitely recommend others giving the subscription a go. It's great to read things you wouldn't normally pick up, and have the surprise and book through your letterbox.”

“I am really enjoying my subscription to Rare Birds which I got as a Christmas present. In a time when we can't browse the bookshop shelves to find new reading, it's lovely to have a surprise book delivered every month. They are beautifully wrapped and feel like a little treat. I am also enjoying the online discussion of each book.”

“My son bought a six book package for me for Christmas. I have so far read 2 books. Neither books would I have picked for myself. However, they have both been thought provoking. I had got very stuck in my reading style so this has brought me totally out of my comfort zone which has been good. I love the way the books have been wrapped and packaged. I also like the online book club idea to share views.”

“I bought a 3 month subscription for my daughter in law for Christmas. She has just received her first book, the process she described was that she was sent the description of two books and then selected one on the basis of it. She is three quarters of the way through the first book and has described it as easy reading through this madness! Plus a treat to receive it through the post”

“My first book arrived beautifully wrapped. I love the choice just from the blurb, I am often so drawn to covers that this makes a refreshing change. I haven’t read December’s book yet but it’s next on my list. All contact I have had with the team has been replied to quickly and by a real human! Great service although a little more expensive than some other book clubs.”

“Have only read one book on a 3 month subscription that was bought by my husband as a birthday present. Like the premise that you have two brief synopsis of a book from which you have to choose one. Once ordered you wait until the book arrives through the post and it is wrapped up so you do not see what you have chosen immediately. For my first book choice, I chose the book purely on gut instinct as something I would never choose if browsing in a book shop although I was wavering to the other choice. In this respect it is very like a live book club choice would be - you read something someone has chosen which you might end up liking or not. For me the first selection was definitely not a favourite and wouldn't want to reread. However my sister-in-law enjoyed it so just shows there can be polar opposites on reader enjoyment. At the end of the month, the forum opens up where you can discuss the book and an editor puts up some ideas to start everyone off. Did find this aspect one dimensional as people put up comments but did not seem to interact with anyone else so probably the least bit like a normal book club. You can also see what the other book you rejected is and when I looked and read a bit more on that one realised I should have gone on my first reaction and chosen that one. My second book has already been chosen - a choice between a novel and series of interlinked short stories.”

“Really fun experience! I love that you get to pick a ‘mystery’ book but you still get a plot summary to help you choose so the chances of ending up with something you really don’t like are slim. Only slight downside is that there’s not that much discussion happening in the members’ area online which means this book club can feel a little like a rather expensive way to buy a good book every month without much of the social experience of book clubbing.”
