“Hi, The books portay crucial issues our society is facing today. I liked the idea of choosing a book based on the summary and of promoting/supporting the not so well known female writers. The customer service is helpful and positive, however one of the drawbacks are that the books arrived always very late and I still have not received my September books.”

“Such a great idea, love getting my monthly book, only room for improvement (from my point of view) is potentially having some sort of Kindle equivalent, as I prefer using my Kindle. But the service is great and it's nice to get a present in the post!”

“Bought a six month subscription as a gift. It was something different and very well received. Good gift for someone who reads on a regular basis. Made a change from flowers and chocolate and showed some thought. Easy to sign up and first book came very quickly. On this basis probably worth five stars. However, I can't comment on how the system works nor on the books themselves which is why I have only given four to this review.”

“I received a 3 month book subscription as a birthday gift and absolutely loved the idea. At first I was a bit apprehensive about not knowing which book I was going to get but that makes it all the more fun! I find it really exciting when I know a book is on the way and the packaging is lovely! I would however like to make a couple of points: 1. The whole point of the surprise book is to get you out of your comfort zone, but when I read the first 2 book summaries, one instantly jumped out at me as being my kind of book from the ‘fans of Crazy Rich Asians‘ synopsis. The same thing happened with this months book, The Love Square. I’d actually seen the book listed when searching for others so when I saw the mystery book summaries I actually recognised it and thought, I’d like to read that. However, I probably should have chosen the opposite books as they’re not particularly my style but because of the obvious summary, they jumped out at me. Maybe make them a little less obvious to make people a bit more unsure of what they’re reading! 2. I was thinking about re purchasing a 3 month subscription as a treat as I really enjoy the picking and receiving process but upon just looking up the Love Square, author etc, it’s actually on full price at Waterstones for £2.50 and other main supermarkets for £4.50 so I can’t help but feel although you need to make a profit and run a business, I don’t see the value of the £12 for this particular months book. Overall though, lovely book club and I would highly recommend!”

“What a wonderful surprise to get the gift of words for my birthday. Ordering could not be easier and my first book was one I would have been unlikely to read otherwise. And that would have been a huge loss. Great way to support new authors and introduce readers to emerging talent.”

Didn't love my first book hence the 4*, it was a bit supermarket fiction, but I'm carrying on my subscription because some of the precious books (Circe, Girl, Woman, Other) have been award shortlisted and a bit more literary and what I'm into.”

“Received this as a birthday present from daughter. So far all seems good. First book arrived promptly and I will have time to read it because of the current crisis! Let’s be grateful for small mercies! As a new member would have liked an email to prompt me to choose the next book - but it’s always possible that I missed the info in the welcome emails. Love the idea of supporting new writers. I had fallen out of the reading habit so am thrilled to be revitalising my imagination! I will be able to say more further down the line of membership no doubt! And hopefully will revise my “good” to “excellent”!”

“An interesting concept in this well populated field. The choice is limited to one of two books which in the short term is fine. You can read books outside of your natural comfort zone and by authors with whom you are not familiar. However I am not sure whether I want this in the long term. I am enjoying my experience and think this is an ideal gift for an avid reader. The pluses are the beautiful packaging every month and the synopsis you receive as well as the dinky bookmark. I have to remember to look at the reviews after I have posted my own . They are however interesting and can challenge your viewpoint. I think this Book Club will always be appealing although how long people will continue to subscribe when they perhaps belong to other book clubs which meet with people face to face I am not sure.”
