Glad we could be of service. When a memory stick asks to be formatted it is often a controller fault or corruption of the file system, this can also be as a result of bad sectors. Once we had gained access to the memory and created an image all data was recovered successfully. The file list and integrity report showed over 99% of the data was intact and even the few damaged pictures were editable. These were all returned by secure download. Many thanks for the Review, In this case it we provided an emergency recovery and restoration of an iMac in London. We arranged a dedicated driver to collect and return the iMac and recovered the degraded drive to a new drive which was made into a bootable clone. This enabled Harriet to not risk her system in the normal courier service and for the R3 Team to handle the entire disaster without risk to the drive or the system. We have also referred a partner support company to assist with setting up Apple Time Machine backups and future support. Many thanks for the review Scott, As is often the case all that is shiny is not necessarily gold, and when told your hard drive could not be recovered you did well to select a true Seagate data recovery specialist. Our team of engineers have recovered many Seagate drives declared unrecoverable by UK and European labs and we are used as an escalation route for some of the most severely damaged and degraded drives which other labs and data recovery experts do not have the time or resources to handle. However this expertise, experience and the resources of the R3 Data Recovery Hospital based at Security House in Sheffield does come at a what appears on first glance to be a premium price. In reality we are cost effective and realistic about the cost of carrying our data recovery at the highest success rates and most economical cost. Unfortunately even a nearly new drive can fail if it is subjected to external interference beyond its design parameters. But WD drives are generally better quality and providing they are not subjected to software recoveries after a drop or knock, they will be fully recovered by the team at R3 Data Recovery. “After a nightmare experience with a DIFFERENT company, who took a large sum of money for nothing but corrupt files and spent another 2 weeks prolonging the problem, avoiding calls and being unfathomably unhelpful - I went to R3 for help, who managed to return all my files within 2 days at half the price. Even after the job was complete they have still been helpful and reassuring in every way. I would highly recommend R3. Hi Anne This was a quite involved case to recover a Microsoft works .wps file which was overwritten by a blank version of the same file name and then an upgrade of Windows to a newer version further compounded the corruption in the recovered versions of the file needed. This required an extraction of the text from damaged files and piecing together as much of the 135 pages of the document as possible which made up several chapters of a book. Thank you for your feedback and I trust you recognise the lengths we go to as a company to help those unfamiliar with computer files, file systems and the complications of a finding a lost document within millions of results purely from a few keywords.

? Dear Paul, I am sorry you felt disappointed with a service which extended considerable effort, resources and determination from its engineers to help you. The issue here is your Seagate 1.5TB drive was in a much worse state than anticipated. Despite a rebuild it was only possible to get 7GB of files and at only 75% quality which you accepted. We do offer to do more rebuilds in order to improve the image but you declined this. If you would like us to try to improve the results we do offer an escalation service which is used on seriously damaged or contaminated drives, such as those affected by floods or drops or knocks or declared unrecoverable by others. We cannot offer a discount on subsequent rebuilds and donors, it is matter of fact, time and donors costs money, it is your data to put a value on and we are unable to subsidise what is complex work which requires considerable investment to do. We do our best every month and work extremely hard to deliver on the companies remit to give the very best chances of recovery at a reasonable cost for as many of our clients as it is possible for the lab to handle. The fact is we have we are one of the largest data recovery labs with the resources necessary to deliver a recovery under the worst of situations. We just cannot do it at a loss otherwise we go out of business.

A call to Andy on the Saturday afternoon was greeted with a pleasant re-assuring voice that they would do everything they could to retrieve my data. My disc was duly sent off (even though Andy had offered a collection service) and the following day they acknowledged receipt. I'd not asked for an express service, so was pleasantly suprised to be told the next day that my data had been rescued, complete with a file list and an invoice. The Invoice was duly paid and I received a new external hard drive with all my data on the Friday morning, less than 5 working days turn round, and two of those in transit. Fantastic Service, but sorry guys, I hope I don't have to use you again - I'm now backing up my back-up and keeping them in different places. Hi Stephanie Your drive had suffered a head crash at some point in its life due to a power fault, it affected its ability to initialise and read the main data areas. Fortunately after inspecting the platters and heads we were able to effect a recovery of 99.88% - 386.7GB cost effectively. You were very fortunate that these 1TB WD10EADS-00M2B0 are quite resilient.

Hi Mohammed, This is one of those cases which shows how reliable hard drives are. This 20GB Seagate ST320414A had been working 7 days per week for over 10 years until a power outage. Whilst a power outage would likely affect any storage device including an equivalent sized SSD - solid state memory has yet to prove itself able to not only survive long term intensive read writes, but also are generally more likely to be corrupted or unrecoverable when affected by power surges.
