It is a while ago since I had this disasterous experience but I just came across my emails of complaint to My Baker and I dont think I ever did the review. I am still seething with the fact they didnt deliver anything like the standard of cakes I have had in the past and I felt I had let my daughter down. Rather than a highlight it became the joke of the party. I said I didnt mind how much it cost as it had to be SPECIAL. (paid over £150 and they only refunded 75%). Apart from the aesthetics the cake was dry and most ended up in the bin (which is why they would not refund the whole amount - they said I should have kept it) One of my emails will explain: Morning Jane I could have cried when I opened the box containing the cake last night. It was nothing like I asked and paid for. As you know the colour scheme was white and gold. The cake is yellow. I asked for gold leaf decoration and paid extra for it. This turned out to be a couple of thumb size pieces on the top of the cake and three or four pieces dabbed around the side of the cake. The photo pictures are substandard, very faint and this morning are buckling on top of the cake. There is virtually NO decoration apart from the dated looking piping around the edge of the cake . In addition I asked for HAPPY BIRTHDAY K...... to be put on the cake. This is piped on the flimsy cake board around the edge and not on the cake , is hardly visible and looks like a child has done it. I made it clear that this had to be a special cake as it was for my daughters 30th and I didnt mind the cost but I could have got this standard of cake from a supermarket who do photo cakes. It looks very amateurish and absolutely not up to the standard of cakes I have ordered from other companies in the past at a third of the price. I am really upset and now have to go out to find some decorations to try to improve the look of the cake - not what i should be doing on the day of the party. I have photos I can send but at this moment dont have time. I just wanted to let you know what has happened. It is a shame that you dont have a local baker as I could have taken it back (i feel sorry for the poor lady that had to drive from Wimbledon to deliver it) I WOULD DEFINITELY NOT RECOMMEND ORDERING FROM HERE FOR A SPECIAL OCCASION - IT IS TOO RISKY

Ordered a expensive birthday cake. The customer service was absolutely outstanding before I made payment. One the day of the party. We found out the cake base was dry. So clearly the base wasn’t made fresh. With Tim two days after the party I received many messages from the friends attended party said they were shocked with the quality of the cake I ordered from My Baker. I then called the company, the customer service told me it was customer’s fault for not call them and ask them to take the cake back during the party and just leave all the guests celebrate the birthday party with birthday cake. I’m strongly suggest everyone to avoid this company.

Dear Bisma, Many thanks for your feedback, and we are sorry that you were not happy with the outcome this time. I attach a picture of the cake as it was prepared for context, which shows it in a more favourable light. We always try to make things right for our customers. We acknowledge that, from the picture you attach above, there does appear to have been some superficial damage to the cake on delivery. However, the picture you have posted above was not provided at the time. Further, and crucially, we offered at the time to have our local baker come out to you and repair the superficial damage shown - which you refused, despite there being a willingness and plenty of time to put things right. Therefore, this could have been remedied and you could have had a perfect cake for your event, which was to be served the day following delivery, but chose not to do so. I don't think we could have done more in terms of our customer service in this instance. We were prompt and offered a full solution at no cost to you. As you rejected this offer to have the cake repaired, we are not responsible for ruining an event. We are not able to offer compensation on this occasion, and consider the matter closed. Placed order on the Birthday cake. Only days later got notified they cannot fulfil the order by delivery time required, have to end up sourcing another cake supplier in short notice.

It’s a Russian Roulette. I live in Surbiton so whoever lives in this area, please double check who you are ordering from. My baker’s creation was awful. After reading amazing reviews I decided to purchase a cake for my husband’s 50th birthday. The cake arrived on time, looking nice. When we cut the cake, I could not believe I spent over £100 on this butterland. The layers were overloaded with butter. It was so much of it, the cake was not eatable so it went to the bin. Gutted, because it was such a special occasion.

Ordered a lemon cake about 2 weeks ago which was absolutely appalling!! The cake was stale and certainly not freshly made. They say that they value theie customers but actually they really don't!!, it just a lie!! Had to fight two weeks for a refund even, then only they only agreed 25% of the cake cost which is shambolic!! My wife's birthday surprise was ruined, and they were more concerned about how good they perform their quality check rather than look at the situation from a customer perspective. Could have got a better cake from Tesco!! Should have got a full refund, over 95% of the cake has gone in the bin!!!!!!

Dear sir, We are sorry you did not like the cake. We take every complaint seriously and investigate thoroughly, taking into account the customer's and baker's explanations. We can confirm that your complaint was investigated. The cake was freshly made (definitely not stale), and quality controlled by the baker prior to dispatch. However we accept it was not to your taste. This is the context in which a partial refund was given.
Got cake for wife’s baby shower, while I can’t say it wasn’t edible that’s as far as I would go. For the price you expect something a little better than a £10 tesco cake. We got the vanilla cake and the icing was sickly sweet along with the fillings. The sponge was dense and tasteless. Neither of us managed to eat more than 1/4 of a small slice. This tastes like a mass produced soulless effort from a baker who is just trying to play on the craze for high end cakes. Hummingbird is light years ahead of my baker. While looking good they taste bad. The owner also tried to contact me several times hoping I would amend the review and he would speak to me on Monday to offer a little gesture of goodwill! Review sites are there for peoples honest opinions and shouldn't be altered. The review was taken down as he contacted Review.co.uk and said my review was factually incorrect but after I amended one statement it has since been reposted so all credit to the site for letting people express their opinion. All we wanted was a edible cake and not gestures or a refund!

Worst cupcakes ever. Please avoid ordering cupcakes for delivery in Wimbledon. They were very late and the cupcakes had melted and we had to throw them out. Really bad experience. Not worth the money paid.

Cake was not delivered! After several stressful conversations with my baker on day of my husbands surprise 50th party... the cake was never received by Uber driver. The baker said she would make another and make sure will be delivered by 5.30pm latest... the cake arrived 7.45pm and was embarrassing on arrival at the state of the cake. The cake was nothing like the kinda beuno cake I order and did not have any birthday message on it. Sad to say the cake went in the bin. Such a shame as have used my baker before and was excellent. It ruined the surprise for my husband.

The process was very easy, I had quick responses and the people at My Baker were very helpful and friendly. However I had decided to have my mother’s birthday cake made by a professional as it is a special occasion and I wanted something better and different. I was very disappointed and disheartened when I saw the cake as first of all I had to pay an extra £5 for fruit which I did not mind but in the reference picture there were strawberries, blueberries and cherries. I did not get a single strawberry and secondly I asked for the cake not to be too sweet but upon tasting the cake, the icing was so thick and too sweet. The cake did not look good and didn’t taste good and was definitely not worth £41. The ombré looked sloppy and I paid extra for two fruits. I believe the baker tried very hard as her baker profile seemed to have very nice cakes but it is a shame that I caught the short end of the stick. The cake I received was nothing like my reference picture and was honestly embarrassing. Thank you to the My Baker team, customer service was splendid but the cake not so much.
