“I chose to fit this K&N performance air filter in preference to the a complete replacement cold air intake system after being told by my local mechanic that cold air systems actually reduce power, particularly during the warmer months, by between 5 - 10%. Since fitting I have noticed that the exhaust note sounds more throaty and the engine revs more easily. K&N guarantee an increase in HP and several independent comparisons confirm increases of between 3 and 5 HP. I have however noticed that fuel consumption has increased slightly but that might be due to more “spirited “ throttle use by me in response to the better exhaust note which has followed fitting. The fitting itself was very easy and simply requires releasing two spring clips on left hand side of the air box and sliding top of box left /up allowing access to remove old filter and insertion of replacement, job took 3 minutes, no tools required. After fitting you will never need to replace the air filter again, K&N provide a 1 million mile warranty. Apart from the apparent increase in fuel consumption I cannot find a reason for not recommending the fitting of this quality part . Usual MX5 Parts efficient and speedy purchase and delivery.
