Everything was good until we got to the airport in Fuerteventura then could not find the Ecar desk - neither could anyone else at the airport. The help desk had not heard of Ecars so I had to phone Ecar from Fuerteventura - (an expensive experience) eventually a rep answered the call and told me that the information I required was on the voucher I'd printed off - it was not and I still have the voucher. The arrogant and rather rude individual then told me that I have to go to gold car and put the phone down. Thank you but no thank you - not again

I booked a mini-MPV so that my three adult children would have a full comfortable seat in the back. When I arrived at the Gold Car office I was offered a Nissan Qashqai which has a hard raised middle seat and a low roofline. I pointed out that this was not a mini-MPV but was told no other option was available and the class I booked included the Qashqai. After an hour arguing and trying to find a UK or Portugese number (not provided in the hire document/voucher) for the AutoEurope office I was told the same story by them. It seems the description of the category is no guarantee of the car type you get and booking through a middle man certainly doesn't help resolve the issues.

We cannot guarantee the make or model of the rental vehicle will be the same as the vehicle displayed on our website. As it would be impossible to list every vehicle model available around the world, cars are categorised into similar groups according to the Association of Car Rental Industry Systems Standards. We display as much information as We can to help you with your selection including the approximate size of the vehicle and whether the car is manual or auto, with or without air conditioning. SIPP Codes are sent through by our suppliers and arranged as per the ACRISS codes for car types. These codes help us determine which group to display the car type on our search results page - details of this can be found here - http://acriss.org/car-codes.asp What you actually receive when collecting your car may not match the image you were shown at the time of the booking. This is why all cars are displayed with the "or similar" note along side them as they are for reference only and do not guarantee that is what you will receive. The hire car you receive on collection should fall into the same car class grouping as the one you booked and paid for.
