Don't know how long they've been hiding behind the Debenhams brand, but Eldon Insurance (claiming to be based in Bristol but call centre experience suggests otherwise), even by the standards of many car insurance companies, offer appalling customer service based on our experience of setting up a new policy; I just hope we don't have to make a claim before the policy expires. Had it not been for their raft of penalties for changing the policy much less cancelling it, we'd have bailed already. They seem to be aggressively seeking new business at the moment judged by their coming at or around the top of the list for most of the big comparison sites. Emails requesting documentation were frequent and frequently aggressive in tone and laden with threats of financial penalties and cancellation of cover, and were contradictory at times. Dealing with their call centre to try to resolve a minor error in completing the online proposal form was a nightmare; unintelligible staff who were badly trained in dealing with customers. To anyone from Debenhams PLC reading this and the other reviews, for your own sakes stop this cowboy outfit tarnishing your name as soon as possible!

Very annoyed x customer, I just called to cancel my car insurance as I got a cheaper quote, the person I talked to was very rude and actually hung up on me. DEBENHAMS come on is this the way you train your employees, I'm sure all calls are recorded this person should be dealt with, shocking behaviour....

Conned me out of 5 months insurance when they said when I changed my car the renewal date would change. I'd give them 0 stars if I could. AVOID!

Such a waste of money.. Rip Off. Poor Customer Service.. Charge for every thing, Really Disappointed with the kind of service they offer. Never Ever Go for this company insurance

Just coming to the end of my policy with them. First problem I had was when my car was damaged by a supermarket trolly collector. I asked them if they would give me cover for a courtesy car while my was fixed by the third party, they refused to do this which was only a minor inconvenience as the third party ended up covering me. Then just this weekend I had my car broken into when it was park in a public car park whilst I was out xmas shopping. Tried to call them to get a quote for the broken window and some direction on what to do. As it was a Saturday I missed there opening times for the call centre and have just discovered they're not open on a Sunday either. So I now face a wintery 120 mile drive to work on a monday morning with no drivers door window. I am not hopeful that this is going to be an easy situation to deal with them. I wish I had read the reviews before taking out cover with them. It is a lesson learnt to not always go with the cheapest, and to read reviews first. Glad that I only have 2 days left with them then Im back with ESure, a company I have been with before and know to be good.

I took out a policy with Debenhams and all seemed well until I was pulled over by police claiming I had no insurance. I had my documents but when the policeman called the insurance company they were told my policy was cancelled I'm august due to a direct debit fail, this was November so yes on my behalf I maybe should have noticed that they payment had not been taken for the following 3 months but I rarely check my online banking. I received no letter or emails from Debenhams informing me of the cancellation of the missed payments, when I contacted them I was told letters were send .. 3 of them, then 5 of them and then it changed to emails as I had took out my policy online. My car was seized and I am now faced with 6 points and a £300 fine not including the £150 impound fee and it vertually impossible to be reinsured as I now have to disclose 6 points driving with no insurance, and a cancelled policy!

VERY VERY VERY upset Been with this company for 2 years With 3 years no claims I called to change my adress and they charged me £135 Absolutely gutted I was blackmailed that they'll cancel my policy if i didnt pay. Very upset

STAY WELL CLEAR!! payed in full never had claim before: my range rover was stolen early October 6wks on had no feedback payed for courtesy and protected no claims now they say it's depending on availability.. I have 2 babys + double buggie they've issued fiat 500! Buggie don't fit in boot 2 child seats barely fit in the back. Absolute joke of a company.

Finished up paying £90 more than my renewal quote, thought the name Debenhams would guarantee Decency. Wrong, paid in one go, now 4 months later still not got my insurance certificate. The amount of paperwork I was asked for went on and on, even after doing everything they asked it was not completed. The one thing they are really good at is taking money out of your account. Been insured for over 40 years and never had the misfortune to deal with a company like this before.

DO NOT INSURE WITH THEM!!! Worst company to insure your car with! Would not switch my vehicles over, charged me two lots of deposits for my vehicles and have now billed me £175 cancellation fee which was not stated by any staff when the policy was taken and when questioned no staff, even managers can explain what the fee is a calculation of! I received no contract for my policy throughout my insurance and the staff are the rudest I've ever come across! Unhelpful, rude, argumentative and not trained properly! This company needs shutting down by the FCA before more poor people get drawn in!! Cheaper is not better!!!! I wish I'd seen these reviews beforehand!

Debenhams could no longer insure me due to a change in personal circumstances so I had to cancel and look elsewhere. I have 5 years NCB with a previous insurer but they are claiming I have zero!!! Spend anything between 30-45 minutes being transferred from Debenhams to Eldon to sort out the issue going through about 10 different people who I can barely understand. The amount of stress caused by these people is ridiculous and the problem is yet to be resolved. Basically they are a shower of shi** and should be avoided at all costs. If I could give zero stars then I would...I paid my insurance premium in full and only been with them since June, no word of any refund, no shock there I guess!

This company is a disgrace. I paid a £130 deposit and had insurance for just over 2 months @ £80 a month then decided to go with another company (I'm very happy with) now Debenhams are trying to charge me a £190 cancellation fee? Hahaha not a chance in hell am I paying that. What is this world coming to?? Greedy bastards - I do hope they go under.

Thought Debenhams would be a great choice for our car insurance think again!!! After buying the thru money supermarket I noticed and emailed straight away saying that there was the wrong license dates they said that's fine but when I sent licence codes they said they have to charge £100 admin fees to change two lots of 6 numbers and when I queried about cancelling in the 14 days they said I owe them £55 even tho I paid £190 deposit. No I have to make a loss and try and start again because I'm worried when my additional driver passes her test there will be even more charges :( do not be fooled by the cheapness once they've finished it's not so cheap- AVOID this company buys a bad name on debenhams as a whole!!!

I HATE this insurance company with a passion they are lazy and lie to customers. You are expected to do EVERYTHING whicht they should be doing like chasing the other side in a claim or even contacting your old insurance company. DO NOT BOTHER WITH THEM the stress they have brought upon me is not worth the low rate

Everything went wrong. I have made numerous calls to the customer services dep't, the last of which was this evening. As usual I find myself recounting what is happening to a variety of people, the final person I spoke to this evening cut me off, too difficult a problem to deal with perhaps? A company who claims to insure for one price, reeling the customer in, and then proceeds to add extortionate administration costs is, in my opinion, not the company I opted for when searching comparison sites. This whole fiasco has already cost me time and money and I am irritated that I did not remain with my original insurer. What you see is what you get. This is not the case with Debenhams and I can ill afford to have to continually contact a service that is unable or unwilling to provide answers.

Debenhams Car Insurance is a scam. They keep asking for copies of driving licences and the paper counterparts. You send it then they want it in a different format. Then they want you to go onto a website and generate a code that you have to send them. Then they cancelled my policy. I paid £242 and they have refunded me £145. I have ended up paying just under £100 for less than 1 month's cover and I was left without insurance. I will be submitting a complaint to the Financial Conduct Authority as I believe this is a scam. I am astounded that a household name like Debenhams can act like this.
