understand. I will start by pointing out that BUNAC has a real speed of response when we have a question to ask. The procedure is also very simple to carry out and does not take a head. For the rest, I did not see the usefulness of a "sponsor" other than to meet the mandatory criterion to obtain a VISA. I completed my internship with my supervisors of the internship company and had even forgotten BUNAC before realizing that I had 4 reminder emails to complete a "Monthly Report". 1400€ for a dematerialized paper plus monthly reports to complete seems to me very high as price... I would be delighted if BUNAC explained to me what my 1400€ went into and I would like to see how they have been beneficial... I specify that in addition to the price of BUNAC I had to add 300 € of VISA procedure fees to the English government so really I do not see the justification for such a price...

The only step this company made easy was they had simple power points to follow when applying for the actual visa. However trying to receive any help or information is awful after you’ve secured the visa. Take weeks to reply to emails, get ignored half the time, they don’t actually answer the questions you’re asking. I don’t think it’s worth the price you pay. They don’t even care enough to spell your name correctly in correspondence.

For my part, I had already found my internship in the United Kingdom. BUNAC was only to serve me as a sponsor to please administrative people whose meaning I do not always understand. During the VISA application process, I somehow went off the tracks BUNAC set for me (despite noticing it early on and being very carefull to follow their instructions). It resulting in me paying myself my ~2000€ visa when my company should have had the opportunity to pay it, and paying additional fee I should have avoided (IHS). I understand that this probably first resulted from a mistake on my side, but it also means BUNAC instructions aren't suffiently clear to help foreign people go through the visa application process without problem.

Rob’s really passionate about the J1 experience and helped me paint a picture of what it could be like for me state-side, he was reassuring and I look forward to speaking to him again along the line.

Overall, if you could avoid using BUNAC, I would. I thought BUNAC was generally a fine platform, but the website was incredibly buggy and confusing. When uploading documents, what was actually required was incredibly unclear. I uploaded all documents that BUNAC requested on their “documents” tab, but still received emails telling me that I had missing information. The emails included few instructions for how to complete the task. Any instructions that were given would instruct me to view pages that I could not find or upload documents to places on the website that did not exist. If you tried replying to any emails, no response was given. The application status bar could have been helpful if it actually worked. After completing the application and uploaded required documents, my application would show that I had incomplete documents or tasks. When completing my required entry forms, again I found the website glitchy, saying that there were still things I needed to complete. Even after completing my internship, my portal on the website still says that I have only 87% of my application complete and that I have documents that I need to upload. This made it incredibly frustrating to know what I needed to do to continue. Because of all these issues, I had to reach out to support often. There was no information on the portal for how to contact support, I had to find these details in the emails from BUNAC. The support team was incredibly helpful, but it shouldn’t have taken this much. I independently organized an internship placement so I did not use BUNAC for that. I found the price for using BUNAC was incredibly steep, $800 for their services alone, not including paying for the actual visa. I had no choice but to use this service as it was what my organization used for visa applications. The only advantages of BUNAC were that they had internships you could apply for on their website if you needed to, that they (sort of) highlighted what documentation you would need for a visa, and that they had helpful support staff. I’m sure there is a lot that BUNAC does outside of what I see to ensure that I get my visa, but I can only speak from my experience. BUNAC is definitely an okay option for applying for a visa, but it comes with irritation and confusion. After many emails to support, everything turned out fine in the end. If you can, I would avoid using BUNAC for your visa application.
