“Hired a floor cutter from these people. First machine broke down and was supplied with a heavily worn blade which only gave us about an hour of proper use. This wasted a whole day of my laborers time. Had to pay £99 for a new blade - this came in the form of two further used blades. Bearing in mind you can buy a brand new blade for £160 this is very poor value for money. Second machine supplied worked OK, so we were at least able to get the job done, but then it wasn't picked up according to the schedule and got in the way. Worst of all I complained about all of this to the management of this company they did nothing to compensate me. Avoid.”

“The day before the rotavator was due to arrive I was telephoned to say they didn't have the heavy duty rotavator I had ordered but were going to deliver a medium duty rotavator and refund the difference. I needed the machine before the rains were due, so I had to accept this. The machine arrived on time and I managed to get the ground prepared, albeit, I believe, with more difficulty than if I had got the machine I wanted. Although the machine was delivered late in the day, it was collected early in the day so I did not have it for the full 7 days, although the job had been completed.”

“Machine that was hired did not work effectively. Was only operational intermittently during the period of hire significantly impacting progress on intended work. When contacted the hire shop told me that the machine worked fine, despite me clearly explaining the issues with no resolution being offered. Disappointing overall”

“1 week hire of a tree stump grinder. Equipment as specified. Delivery and Pick up went smoothly. I was charged a sharpening fee but the grinders "teeth" were blunt on arrival and looked like the worn shape that the instructions suggested would damage the machine. No resharpening information provided. Even with gentle use the equipment failed after grinding 5 small stumps. The internal drive mechanism had disintegrated. Returned and repaired quickly, but teeth still blunt. I reset the teeth by rotating them to present the more sharp edge to the front. This improved the cutting power significantly. The machine worked well for the remaining stumps.”

“Equipment was good - but came late, and was picked up several days late after the rental. Was big, heavy equipment, so having it around for longer than required made my project more difficult. Buyer beware - customer pickup and drop off date requests seem to be seen as “advisory” at best.”

“I hired a petrol cultivator for one week and paid a deposit in case of damage to the machine. The hole process was done on-line including payment for delivery and collection of the equipment. The equipment was returned in perfect working order and cleaner than when it was delivered. I would have thought my deposit will returned automatically to me. But that has not happened .”

Dear Tony, Thank you for your review. We have looked into this and we have not taken a deposit for the order. I think you are referring to the damage waiver insurance which you took out, which I'm afraid is not refundable.

“Stated price is not actually possible. The advertised price of a scarifier is just under £18/day. When you proceed, they mandate an RCD plug at £2.50 ( I have one / do not need to rent one) and an insurance waiver of £2.97. These are not options. So the actual price is 30% higher than stated.”

“Booked and prepaid for the hire of a stump grinder for one day. Delivery and pick-up efficient. Worth noting that the headline price on the website is click bait as the price after all the 'extras' was 92% more. You need to add Delivery (I guess optional if you have van/trailer), Damage waiver (I was not told that this was optional) VAT and consumables/service (tank of petrol wear and tear of the teeth). The grinder was caked with dried on mud and chippings underneath. The grinder teeth were blunt and out of alignment (note I paid for wear!). The nuts securing the teeth were rounded off so I couldn't adjust them (reported this and was told it's a design fault!). So, grinding took longer due to the blunt teeth. Even though the machine was delivered filthy I felt obliged to pressure wash the machine as the T&Cs state I may be charged for cleaning. After pick-up I received a further charge for 35.50. So called the depot who after checking for a few minutes told me I had to contact the HQ/call centre. HQ 'think' I was invoiced for a longer hire in error. They would try credit but may have to charge my credit card and then refund (I have not given them express permission to charge in the first instance). So, in summary, I feel they deserve one star but the people were helpful so gave them the benefit. 'bestathire.co.uk' need to sharpen their act (and teeth)!”

“Did not deliver the extension I paid for with the generator I hired. Driver disputed this despite my booking confirmation and just shrugged. My sister had to leave my wedding day to buy something locally to have it in time. Delivery and collection was straightforward otherwise.”

Dear Mr Hodge, Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your experience. I am sorry the hire did not meet up to expectation. We have looked into the circumstances surrounding your online booking and it seems that you didn't order the 240v Fly Lead converter needed with your generator in order to run 240v appliances , so the extension lead would have been no use on it’s own. It looks like our staff therefore switched the extension lead for the converter lead so you would have been able to run 240v appliances but didn’t bring a spare extension lead with them when delivering the generator. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused. We hope you will consider us next time you wish to hire something.

“The machine sent was not as advertised on the web pages - I specifically wanted a machine that could create deep tines. The one sent had no adjustment (unlike the one advertised) and only went to about 2cm in depth. The hiring process itself was straight forward. The follow-up to my complaint was not great.”
