Last Tuesday I arranged a hire of a lawn scarifier this weekend. The weather forecast was perfect and I arranged for time in my schedule to carry out the scarifying of my lawn made necessary by the long period of hot weather this summer. It was delivered satisfactorily, however the delivery driver was unable to help me familiarise myself with what should be the simple process of starting the machine or operating it. I did as he suggested and rang the Brandon office. Your colleague Rob gave me clear instructions to no avail. It would not start. After my trying for five minutes or so under his instruction by phone, he offered to come to me. Clearly he left his office immediately and arrived within 20 minutes (around midday on Saturday), accompanied by the delivery driver. He was unable to start the machine before he changed the spark plug. I asked him when it had been checked and he told me that he had done so the previous day. I found this very surprising. Eventually, the machine laboured into life. There followed serval minutes of Rob attempting to keep the engine firing. Eventually it was achieved by regulating the choke and I was advised to run it on half choke. I used the machine for half an hour or so, during which it stalled on numerous occasions. On the final occasion it did so I could not restart it, whatever adjustment I made to the choke. I broke for lunch. I returned to the machine half an hour later and after half a dozen attempt to start it, the pull starter cord snapped. (It was old and obviously had been pulled on countless occasions). The machine looked – and was – ‘clapped out’. It was not in working order when delivered, it required servicing before it would start and broke down soon after your colleagues left. It is clear to me that rather than having a policy of renewing your hire equipment regularly you hire out machinery until you disappoint and inconvenience your customers by hiring out unreliable old equipment. I have missed this first-class opportunity to carry out this job, whilst the grass is growing, which is necessary. You cannot put this right; however, I do require an immediate, full refund. The patio cleaner had worn brushes and did not clean properly. It took twice as long so ended paying double to the handyman. The drive was paved so didn’t notice until used it on slabs. I asked for a refund but had no response.

Machine was not setup from service and did not work. Asked for it to be sorted but no engineers. 6 people on site so had to pay for it to be sorted by local guy. Still waiting for them to "review" the situation. Now counting in months.

The branch did not have enough sanding paper for the machine which meant me trawling around and eventually buying it from HSS. This meant it was too late to contact their office by the time I tried to use the machine and found it tripped the circuit breakers when fired up. Eventually I tracked the fault to the plug that runs from the floor sander switch to the main machine. The bayonet fitting had been put together the wrong way which was obvious as the cap was not sat properly on the plug. When I dropped the machine off I got a shrug of the shoulder and when I emailed the head office I was ignored. Don't use them

The 1 star is just for the purpose of writing this review. No Stars for this company! Before hiring I called the company to clarify how it works, as this was my first time. The guy then went on to say ORDER FROM THE WEBSITE IT IS EASY, it took me about 30min to order 1 item. Chose delivery and collection. The the special instructions I stated to call me 1 hour before arrival and opted for the PM slot, to them be called at 11 saying they are 20-30min away! Purchased shampoo then to be told that they do not do this item anymore and got 4 SMALL tablets instead (£7.82)! Collection day opted for AM, was at my site for 3hours waiting. When 12 hit I called to find out what was happening with the collection to then be told they have not got the space to come and collect and will collect the next day. Just do yourself a favour and don’t use this company.

Well i won't be using again, 5 pound charge for a tank of petrol that holds less than a litre, equipment not collected on day arranged, with no contact from you, when we contacted you were told sorry there was a knock on effect and we have to wait for collection this afternoon, so tough that you have wasted a day waiting on our inefficiency, then to be told they have 48 hours to collect!! Can't see that written anywhere in your policy. There is a thing called duty.of candour, if you mess up you do your best to sort it out, you failed miserably so the rest of my building requirements, which are substantial, will be furnished else where

Hired a Ladder through bestathire.co.uk in association with brandon hire station reading, hired on line ref 400101412/1 . I hired the wrong size ladder it was to big when i tried to get the smaller ladder after 2 phone calls i found the staff very unhelpful was told they did,nt have the smaller ladder at that branch and did,nt have the staff to collect from another branch, was told sorry can,t help you! But still charged me £35 for a days hire.

The compactor I hired broke after one day, the string pulley broke so I had to complete the job by hand. When I returned it I was told someone would contact me in a couple of days but no one did. Very poor customer service and your equipment is shabby.

The cleaning liquid poured out of the part where a cable connects with the black tube. It spilled constantly on to the carpet, which made them worse. I was unable to clean them as I wanted too, in fact I think they are now worse, and then the equipment broke and I was unable to finish the job. The staff seemed uninterested in dealing with this so I left it. Not great really but the price for hire was reasonable, shame it was a waste of money.

I hired a carpet cleaner for same day drop off a.m and same day pick p.m. The cleaner was dropped off at 11.50 so barely made the a.m slot and then not collected until Monday lunch time, so I spent my weekend waiting for it to be picked up! I did call several times and i was told it would be collected but they never arrived to collect it.

We have looked into the circumstances surrounding this and last Friday, the depot was experiencing an exceptionally busy day and whilst we intended to collect the carpet cleaner late Friday afternoon, other factors beyond our control made us unable to collect then.
