“Takenoko is a great ‘entry’ game into the hobby that remains enjoyable long after you have started your collection! To win the game you will need to achieve a certain amount of objectives. These come in three forms, gardener objectives need you to have bamboo of certain heights and colours, panda objectives need the panda to eat certain colour bamboo, and the emperor challenges which require the garden tiles to be laid out in certain patterns. To do this you will take 2 actions from a possible 5 but usually you aren’t allowed to repeat the same action. After the first round a dice is added into the mix which will give you a bonus on your turn. As the board grows you will more both the gardener and panda around it growing and eating bamboo respectively, trying to achieve your objectives. The board grows into a great looking garden thanks to the fantastic components. I’ve also found that it works really well for children with a few tweaks to simplify it!”

“Fun game - takes a little while to learn all the rules for those new to this sort of game, but it is very cute and has quite a bit of strategy to it once you figure it out. Definitely recommended if you're after something interesting but not overly directly competitive!”
