About The Location
Skylark Cottage nestles in a peaceful spot yet only a few minutes' stroll from the centre of Ambleside. A holiday property in Ambleside provides an excellent starting point for a varied Lake District holiday. Easily accessible via the A591 on the northern shores of Lake Windermere, Ambleside is a contemporary, characterful Lakeland village with a spectacular backdrop of Lake District fells.

The location is ideal for walking in the Lake District, with many renowned routes beginning in and around the village. But Ambleside is also a popular choice for a relaxed, slow-paced holiday. Contemporary shops, leisurely lake cruises, acclaimed Lake District restaurants and cosy traditional pubs make the village centre a delight at any time of year.

For evening entertainment, you'll find plenty to suit every taste. Try the renowned Force Mill restaurant, in a superbly converted sawmill, for a special evening out. Or, take your pick from the two quirky cinemas; Zeffirellis cinema includes a great pizzeria and live jazz bar. Fellinis has an excellent vegetarian restaurant and shows films in a relaxed studio cinema environment.

You'll also find a wide range of pubs, serving hearty food and real Lakeland ale - notable for its lake shore setting is the Wateredge Inn. Windermere Lake Cruises depart from Waterhead Pier, just outside Ambleside village centre. The elegant 'steamers' offer regular trips to Bowness and Lakeside - a great way to explore without driving. Evening cruises are also available, sometimes with buffet meals and live music.

Skylark is a really lovely cottage in a fantastic location within a short walk to central Ambleside and Waterhead. The cottage is spacious and being all on one level was ideal for our three year old. Parking was ideal if a little tight on the driveway, best to unload/load from the roadside rather than tackle the steps. We thought the welcome pack was a nice touch with milk, tea, coffee, biscuits, Kendal mint cake and all the essentials for washing dishes etc. The bathroom was a good size with a great shower and the kitchen was very well equipped. Ideal garden space for the dog too. The only negative point would be a bit of dampness in the front and rear bedrooms, the rear bedroom especially had quite a musty smell and a lot of condensation on the window). Our toddler slept in this room which I wouldn't have been happy about if our stay had been longer. This didn't detract from what was an overall lovely cottage in an ideal location, however I don't think I would return due to the dampness issue.

Tv if needed, WiFi....such a lovely place wouldn't hesitate to book again, thankyou. 10 mins maximum walk to the centre of Ambleside...easy to get to all the walks we wanted to do. It's a gem.

The property is on a hill about 5 minutes walk from the center of Ambleside. The property was ideal in terms of a well equipped kitchen and pleasant, clean bathroom, a large bath and shower and plenty of hot water. The beds were very comfortable. The property had a lived in feel which made it relaxing as we had a dog with us. The only obvious minor issue was that the fridge was pretty noisy and as it was an open plan kitchen-diner and lounge area this could be heard generally. Also, the side garden could do with the gate and fence being made secure for dogs.
