About The Location
Skylark Cottage nestles in a peaceful spot yet only a few minutes' stroll from the centre of Ambleside. A holiday property in Ambleside provides an excellent starting point for a varied Lake District holiday. Easily accessible via the A591 on the northern shores of Lake Windermere, Ambleside is a contemporary, characterful Lakeland village with a spectacular backdrop of Lake District fells.

The location is ideal for walking in the Lake District, with many renowned routes beginning in and around the village. But Ambleside is also a popular choice for a relaxed, slow-paced holiday. Contemporary shops, leisurely lake cruises, acclaimed Lake District restaurants and cosy traditional pubs make the village centre a delight at any time of year.

For evening entertainment, you'll find plenty to suit every taste. Try the renowned Force Mill restaurant, in a superbly converted sawmill, for a special evening out. Or, take your pick from the two quirky cinemas; Zeffirellis cinema includes a great pizzeria and live jazz bar. Fellinis has an excellent vegetarian restaurant and shows films in a relaxed studio cinema environment.

You'll also find a wide range of pubs, serving hearty food and real Lakeland ale - notable for its lake shore setting is the Wateredge Inn. Windermere Lake Cruises depart from Waterhead Pier, just outside Ambleside village centre. The elegant 'steamers' offer regular trips to Bowness and Lakeside - a great way to explore without driving. Evening cruises are also available, sometimes with buffet meals and live music.

The property is on a hill about 5 minutes walk from the center of Ambleside. The property was ideal in terms of a well equipped kitchen and pleasant, clean bathroom, a large bath and shower and plenty of hot water. The beds were very comfortable. The property had a lived in feel which made it relaxing as we had a dog with us. The only obvious minor issue was that the fridge was pretty noisy and as it was an open plan kitchen-diner and lounge area this could be heard generally. Also, the side garden could do with the gate and fence being made secure for dogs.

Great location only a few minutes walk into the centre but at the same time far enough away that it was quiet at night. Also very handy for the Windermere Way and walk to Wansfell Pike and Stockgyhll force. The layout of the cottage is fab, very functional kitchen and lovely outdoor eating area. Great to have access to a washing machine if needed.

The cottage is in an excellent position and has plenty of room and comfortable. Lots of walks and restaurants close by, didn't move the car all week. The issue we had was with some of the cleaning. The drain in the shower was so full of hair the water would not drain and the hose to the shower head was full of black mould. We had clean these, and a draw in the freezer had melted ice cream all over it. Hoover was so compacted with dust we could not clear it, the cleaners are not checking basic things.

Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent stay at Skylark Cottage. I'm pleased that overall you had a good holiday, but I am sorry the cleaning was below the usual good standard. I've shared your feedback with the owner, who has, in turn, discussed this with the cleaner, so that these issues can be rectified. Thank you for taking to time to let us know about your stay. ^Adam

Skylark Cottage was a real home away from home with everything you need for a great stay. It's based in a quiet neighbour hood but only a very short walk from the town centre. We loved the cottage and can definitely recommend it.

What a great property. Located a very short walk from the centre of Ambleside with all the shops/cafe/restaurants (no shortage of choices!). Great walks nearby too - no need to get in the car to get to the walks either. Property is well equipped with everything you’d need for a holiday - comfortable sofa, large dining table, comfy beds. Clean and modern. Very quiet overnight too. Only thing missing was washing up liquid/dishwasher tablets - but I can’t really fault that given it is a self-catered properly (we just forgot to pack).
