This program is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. When I first arrived, it was the middle of the night, and the hostel seemed questionable, but as I adjusted to my African family, I grew to love the staff and the place like home. It’s Africa, so yes...sometimes things were a little slow to happen, and yes...sometimes I encountered struggles that I’ve never had to face in the past, but that is all part of the experience. The challenges that I overcame with my fellow volunteers just made our bond so much stronger. The cooks put their heart and soul into their food even though they are there sun up to sun down cooking. The house mamas...or sisters, care for the volunteers as if they are family, and the night guards are like dad’s looking out for their kids.♥️ Dinner time was one of my favorites times, as some of the staff would stay after to play games with the volunteers. It made for such a light, happy atmosphere. I did the medical program for 5 months, and I did an orphanage/women’s center for the last month. St. Elizabeth hospital was life changing. I worked with Dr. Quaker for a few months in the pediatric ward before switching wards, and I learned SO MUCH from that women...not just medical information, but she also taught me about the tribes in the area and their traditions and beliefs and how it correlates with the health of the child. The cases I experienced here were like nothing I would ever experience at home. Some were definitely “heavy,” but that is a challenge every healthcare provider will have to eventually face. The orphanage and women’s center were also amazing. I was at Enjevai Orphanage and Faraja Women’s center. Both the kids and the young moms were such a joy to work with. Despite their circumstances, they came each day with smiling faces. It really puts life into perspective. Overall, I think anyone looking to volunteer with an open mind should book it in Arusha, Tanzania. Don’t go there expecting to improve how they do things, but instead, learn from them and how they survive with limited resources. I promise...you won’t want to leave.

It was one of the greatest experience in my life. Tanzania is a very beautiful country with wonderful nature and pleasant people. Volunteering here gave me a chance to know better other countries culture and communicate with people who are doing a very big influence for the orphans. I am amazed of these kids ability to enjoy simple things and to know how to smile and be happy in every situation. I definitely recommend to volunteer in Tanzania.

It was amazing to be with the kids to help them in everything they need and to see how they live and to get proportions. Thank you very much! The overall living experience was excellent. It was very comfortable and homely stay with all the facilities that I could have asked for. The highlight of my project to see the kids run to hug me when I come to the orphanage every morning.

My overall experience was great! I think largely in part because of the program I did as well as all the different people I met there. I also enjoyed going out and seeing some parts of Arusha and thought that the weekend trips helped make lasting memories. The house was clean and spacious and in a good neighborhood. The food was alright. I really enjoyed working at the project and I think that the experience is definitely worthwhile. Again I liked the independence that volunteers were given to go and help and organize themselves. The chance to take some of the load off of the kids felt great. I think other than developing an attachment to the kids the other highlight was working with other volunteers and learning about the orphanage and the kids there.

Very good experience Levolosi hospital was amazing. The house where I was living was great as well great food/accommodation great people. At the project site I could participate a lot and when I told them my level I could do things according to that level. I'm a 4th-year medical student so I could participate a lot in the clinic. Everyone at the house and the project were friendly and supportive. The highlight of the program - Participating so much in the clinic and the great atmosphere in the house. The safari and tours I could book through the house were amazing as well. The Pre-departure booklet was excellent and accessing My Account was good too.

I enjoyed very much! It was very good opportunity to study and play with local students in Zanzibar. Local schools have a lot of differences compared with schools of my country. However I think to accept those differences might be the first step to getting along with local people. I enjoyed those differences too! I learned many things from them. The house was comfortable and clean. All foods were very delicious. Even there are not internet connection I did not have any big problem with them. (It was good for me to take distance from the internet those days!) Local coordinator was very nice flexible and his English is perfect. We could talk about our interests sometimes at night. It is very easy to look for the project from location or term on the website. My page is also easy to find information and steps we need to complete. The service staff always answered to my question quickly and those answers made my feeling reassurance. It was my first experience to teach English and Math for foreign students. Firstly I was very nervous but gradually I'd got along with them and I found that each student has their personality and advantages (and disadvantages). I hope I could spend more time with them and teach them. This experience has made me confident to spend time with children and it will be very useful for my future career. Thank you very much for all your support. I would like to join other volunteer in the future if I have chances! I strongly recommend to join the volunteer program to my friends.

I really liked the personal page for my trip on the website. The pre-departure booklet was very helpful - especially the language section. Some relevant medical terms/phrases would be helpful for hospital volunteers. The service staff was also very helpful. I loved my placement and didn't want to leave! It was very worthwhile. The accommodation and meals were great! Much better than what I had expected! The in-country staff was great and so helpful. The highlight was being able to go to orphanages and schools some days rather than the hospitals so we could help the kids a little whether it was fixing up scratches or handing out toothbrushes.
