“Why has Twinings discontinued their lovely Lapsang Souchong? I’m not even going to credit this horrible alternative with the term “pale imitation”. Initially, the taste is just watery blandness. Then the aftertaste hits, and it’s disgusting. Hard to describe - it’s a kind of warm plasticky taste with notes of semi-boiled polystyrene. I hate throwing stuff away, but I’ve binned this tragic purchase after two teabags. Replacing your Lapsang with this bilge is incomprehensible and epically stupid. I thought you were tea experts? The feedback form won’t allow a zero star rating, but, for the avoidance of doubt, zero stars or fewer is what this “product” deserves, and that is being generous.”
“I've been drinking Twinings' Lapsang for years and loving it. WTF is this "distinctly smoky" swill that Twinings is now selling, and why does it taste like bookbinding glue and iodine? This is seriously revolting. Didn't you guys used to pride yourselves on the quality of your tea?”
“I used to drink Lapsang Souchong every day, it was my tea of choice and I found it highly comforting. When I ran out of my last box I was disappointed to see that the recipe (and name) had been changed, but I figured it would still be worth it to give it a try, how bad could it be?
As it turns out, extremely bad, to call this tea "Lapsang Souchong Inspired" is an insult. It tastes nothing like the original, its pleasant smell almost entirely gone, it tastes synthetic and flavourless; I couldn't even finish a single cup.”

‘Distinctively Smoky’ is also annoying because its box is very similar to the lapsang box so it’s easy to get tricked into buying it by mistake, which I did. All the supermarkets seem to only stock Distinctively Smoky now, so I’ve had to find a different brand of lapsang and get it delivered online.”
