“What a wonderful piece of kit this is! Perfect both for learning coding and for interfacing to the real world. It is really well done and reminds me of the BBC Model B computer that I used to own many years ago. If you are an experienced computer user, I’m sure that you’ll love it. If you are a beginner, the accompanying book will guide you step by step up the learning curve. The book is really clearly written, quite unlike many instruction manuals.”
“Raspberry Pi 500 - 8GB - UK Layout
As a fan of the Pi 400 I was over the moon when i found out about the Pt 500. With all the bits you need to go including a 27W charger in the box what more could i ask for.
once out on the desk it did not disappoint.”
“The Pi500 is definitely faster than the Pi400 (good!), but there are a couple of issues with it. Firstly, the keyboard is less readable, having slimmer lettering (not good if your eyesight isn't great.) Secondly, when running my interactive program (a chatbot) from a terminal window, the type-ahead doesn't work - it garbles the input (the Pi400 had perfect type-ahead.) Not sure if that's my fault, but it's annoying. A third issue is that the screen doesn't blank out after a while, when the trerminal window is open (although the cursor does go hollow). So I'm reluctant to leave my program running all night. Again, maybe I'm not doing the right thing.
Overall, though, I like the 500, due to its increased speed.”
“This is a great piece of kit. Got This for some basic web browsing. Also do set up as an amiga emulator. Works flawlessly, just insert the mico sd card in. Will have no problem recommending this to anyone.”
“Arrived next day once it was in stock to order. I already got the matching Pi Monitor. Soon had it set up on kitchen table for exploration and once I had worked out that the monior seemed to need two cables I was able to boot up and sign in. It was good to have a beginners handbook but a supplement or even a PDF for the 500 would be helpful for me. Initial impressions are very favourable. There is so much to explore. I'd like to set up a DAC for music streaming and maybe a camera but I'm not sure yet which accessories or how many can be used at once, or whether I can free up a socket with a bluetooth mouse.”
“The Pi 500 gives you the performance of Pi 5 with the convenience of less connections. For my use the performance is good even running off the micro SD card. I would have preferred it to have full size HDMI connectors for the monitor outputs, but to date have not had any problems. I have seen some reports of flex in the keyboard but nothing that bothers me. The lack of an M.2 slot for faster performance may be disappointing for some. I use it with the new Raspberry Pi monitor which makes for a fairly compact desktop setup. Overall very satisfied.”
