Opened the box, plugged dual screens in, pressed the button, and there it was on the screen. Four minutes in total, three of which were unpacking. Libre office, GIMP, and printing all set up. Then I thought, I'd better check out the manual, which I was impressed with, as most of it is about things I'd not considered. Usually, I build myself up with a new PC, ready to face the onslaught. This time, it was so calm and peaceful, and everything worked first time, it was almost an anticlimax. If you want apps that require huge, ongoing processing, it would struggle, for if you just 'play about with a few mundane apps', this must be seriously considered, given the extraordinary price.

Nice bit of kit - sleek and fast, with the pi monitor it looks very nice.

Excellent bit of kit at such a great price! If you can’t afford a PC or console then the Raspberry Pi 500 is the prefect solution. I’ve been buying from The Pi Hut for years now I wouldn’t buy from anywhere else.

What a wonderful piece of kit this is! Perfect both for learning coding and for interfacing to the real world. It is really well done and reminds me of the BBC Model B computer that I used to own many years ago. If you are an experienced computer user, I’m sure that you’ll love it. If you are a beginner, the accompanying book will guide you step by step up the learning curve. The book is really clearly written, quite unlike many instruction manuals.

Raspberry Pi 500 - 8GB - UK Layout As a fan of the Pi 400 I was over the moon when i found out about the Pt 500. With all the bits you need to go including a 27W charger in the box what more could i ask for. once out on the desk it did not disappoint.

The Pi500 is definitely faster than the Pi400 (good!), but there are a couple of issues with it. Firstly, the keyboard is less readable, having slimmer lettering (not good if your eyesight isn't great.) Secondly, when running my interactive program (a chatbot) from a terminal window, the type-ahead doesn't work - it garbles the input (the Pi400 had perfect type-ahead.) Not sure if that's my fault, but it's annoying. A third issue is that the screen doesn't blank out after a while, when the trerminal window is open (although the cursor does go hollow). So I'm reluctant to leave my program running all night. Again, maybe I'm not doing the right thing. Overall, though, I like the 500, due to its increased speed.
