“This new raspberry Pi 500+ is a serious contender for your daily driver. Build quality is amazing, you can really feel the weight difference between this and the previous 500 version.
It can handle any task you throw at it. The LED backlit keys are a lovely touch, with many different options to programme.
Highly recommend buying this for an amazing form factor pc ideal for daily use and for project work.
PiHut as always great and prompt delivery in a well packaged box!”
“Just what the doctor ordered.
Great keyboard and perfect combination of RPi 5 with 16GB of RAM and 256GB SSD.
The leds on the key caps are lost on me, though...
Feels quite nippy. Certainly fast enough for software development.”
“This is a complete PC/laptop replacement for me
No problem with updates/out of date OS/subscriptions
Works well with the Pi Monitor
Perfect for work/printing/office equivalent software/emails/work web based software
Speed absolutely keeps up with modern systems - even with multiple windows open/you tube
Additionally has all the RPi connections for learning/tinkering
For me personally the keyboard is a gimmick- seems those with desires of keyboard standards this is a great option
The memory and ability to run OS from SSD helps raise this to serious laptop replacement levels
Form factor is very simple and convenient
You can create a cheaper version of all the same components with a Pi 5 but for a simple to use out of the box device, this is really handy.
Pre orders were very competitively priced.
As always the Pi Hut is competitively priced, rapid and efficient service with low delivery costs.”
“I was a bit apprehensive about dropping nearly £200 on a Pi but the 500+ justifies its price from feel alone. It has more heft than the 400 and the keys feel solid (they look like double shot plastic so the coloured lights shine through the characters - a nice premium touch!). You also get the most RAM ever in a Pi (16 GB - more than most budget laptops) and a high quality Raspberry Pi 256 GB SSD pre-loaded with the operating system so it works as soon as it's plugged in. I could take or leave the clicky switches, but the rest of the machine is good enough for them not to be too much of a pain point.
Haven't tried any big code projects on it yet but the performance so far is snappy, only really slowing down when a large number of browser tabs are open.
My box didn't come with the tools for opening the computer or swapping the keycaps but, after a couple of emails back and forth with support, they are going to post out a spare set. Very happy indeed :-)”
