I have wanted a pi for ages. I finally took the plunge and bought a 5. There are so many things I have planned for it. So far it's lived up to my expectations and in some cases exceeded them. I am developing a little collection of SD cards with different OSes and projects. I can certainly say I am currently consumed by the pi bug.

My second RPi5. The first was so good and so much of an improvement over the older model. This machine is so much faster and able to do so much more than previous models. Running Tinker CAD and Cura apart from all the usual office and similar activities. The CUps , built in, found my network printer almost as soon as the machine was powered up. So much more freindly than a pc.

As expected, this is a powerful little computer. I'm running livecoding audio software without any problems.

8GB version. Performance is much better than the RPi 4. Bought when on sale for £75 (normally ~£80), that helped to offset the relatively high cost of the accessories. However that up front cost is mitigated by the lower running cost especially if you are leaving it on continuously. Overall quality of the product itself is very high. The only problem I experienced was inserting into the USB sockets was very tight and I had to poke a slim tool into the socket to push the glide to the side out of the way. I bought the Argon Neo 5 NVME case, so the device is slient most of the time. However when I for example run a C++ compilation build across all the cores, then the CPU temperature is raised and the fan starts to get furious. With this high stress the fan noise is definitely noticeable and feels similar to the continuous noise of my N100 mini PC when idle. So given the RPi 5 is silent when idle, I think this is the massive plus point of the RPi when compared to my N100 mini PC. As long as the extra performance of the N100 is not mandatory for your requirements, then for me the RPi is the overall winner. Also I think if you don't need the extra RAM, then when the 1GB and 2GB versions eventually come available, then these will offer unbeatable value for the performance/price level.

So far very pleased. Surprisingly straightforward to build an M.2 booting machine, though do not know why they did not just put an M.2 slot on the back!
