“Great device. Bought to take some of the heavier tasks off an aging raspberry pi 2b. It rips through some of the tasks the old one struggled with. Booting from and nvme makes it even smoother.”
“Being a nerdy tinkerer I'd wanted to start a project with a Pi for some time and when Pi5 was released I felt compelled to dive in. The project I started was to have multiple systems stored on individual SD cards that can be easily swapped out, the external SD card slot provides exactly what I wanted. I now have 2 Pi5's so I can tinker to my hearts content. Lovely bits of kit these are.”
“So at the moment there are issues with the Wayland drivers, but those will get fixed. That aside I'm successfully using a Pi5 as my desktop development system with Debian Bookworm, Gnome and two 4k screens. It's an amazing amount of power for something that fits in the palm of your hand and only eats 5 watts. Also, don't get too carried away with NVMe, a reasonable plug-in external USB drive will get you nearly 400Mb/sec which is rather better than a traditional hard drive on a PC.”
“Fast little guy, with 8GB RAM and the possibility to boot from an nvme drive, directly attached to the PCIe, it should enable plenty of projects from your garage. Thanks PiHut ! Always a pleasure to buy geek stuff from you guys !”
