“I recently picked up the Raspberry Pi PoE+ HAT and I’m genuinely impressed. It was easy to set up and works flawlessly, delivering stable power and network connectivity through a single cable, which really tidies up my workspace. My favourite feature is how quietly it operates even under load, and it keeps my Pi cool without any fuss. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone looking to simplify their Pi setup. I’d give it a solid 5 out of 5 stars!”
“This is a very useful hat, with two significant caveats. The first is that the fan is a bit annoying; there are quieter fans available in a similar form factor so I might see if I can replace it.
The second is that because the socket for the POE pin header connector on the Pi has been surface mounted, it has rather a tenuous connection to the board. As a result, removing the hat can easily cause the socket to detach (as I discovered). It isn’t too hard to solder it back on again, but worth noting. I think if I’d designed it, I’d have used a through hole part for the socket for that reason.
A final note is that if you have a heat sink on your Pi, you’ll probably need to remove it to install the hat. Not a big deal, but worth mentioning as the reason I had to remove the hat in the first place was that I spotted the heat sink fouling components on the back of the board.”
