“I bought this at the same time as the Pi 500+ Desktop Kit. I have other monitors left over from old set-ups, but I wanted the whole “Pi” experience. There’s not much to say about the monitor except that it works. I did have trouble getting the cable plugged in to its socket under the kickstand. On boot up, everything looked okay but, when Pi OS went into desktop, the monitor turned off with a symbol that looked like a power plug with a cross through it. I thought it wasn’t getting enough power, so I tried different power bricks - to no avail.
Eventually I figured out that, although the cable was pushed in as far as it could go, there was actually a fraction of a hair’s breadth still to go. Extra fiddling and pushing, and then it let me see the desktop.
It’s counterintuitive to show the monitor working just fine, and then borking just before getting to the desktop. It makes you think it’s working fine, then black-screens you with no additional information beyond the cryptic symbol.
I guess that’s par for the course with set-ups like this. Don’t take anything for granted because, if it can trip you up - it will.
It’s now running fine, though. Good to have the official screen but, if you have other monitors, use them and save a few quid.”
“I selected the Royal Mail option for delivery. Pi Hut kindly sent it by DHL and it arrived Next Day despite it being just a few days before Christmas Day. However, what concerns me is that Pi Hut might have arbitrarily changed the carrier to Evri. This would have meant, rather inconveniently, that I would probably need to return the RPi Monitor on the assumption it was damaged in transit - assuming it actually arrived.”
“Really nice monitor for the Pi and will be very useful with my laptop when I'm working from home. Leighweight, looks good with a crisp screen.
I did order an HDMI cable as well as it wasn't clear this was actually already included.”
