“I have perhaps gone overkill on the power of the Pi 4 for what I am using it for - Homebridge - but I wanted a device that has adequate compute overhead for any future needs. As I don't have a dedicated server unit the Pi 4 fits the bill perfectly, and I have mine powered via a POE module which makes the whole device perfect for my needs. The Pi just sits in my server rack silently plugged directly into my POE switch with no need for any other cables - truly a set it up and forget purchase.”
“The new PI 4 model B with 8GB of ram is just great to use, from HTPC running Kodi to executing some projects. Currenlty running Manjaro ARM XFCE and it's good, fast and very snappy using an external usb 3.0 HDD running from a powered usb hub. The only downside is that if you wan't to use peripherals that use the 2.4Ghz channel you will have to use an usb 2.0 extension cable with a ferrite core insulation to isolate the usb 3.0 interference.”
