Despite being so small it is a full functional small linux computer. After connecting it to TV, keyboard and mouse you can start to use it as a little computer. If you use an USB hub and a USB Wifi dongle, you can even connect it to the Internet! Another option is to use it in USB slave mode connected to your PC. An excellent product for both prototyping and building small devices. It's also something to keep in your bag next time you need a quick jump box at work. If you couple this with a USB hub and a network adapter (wireless, wired or 3G) it becomes a nice replacement for the desktop. One feature I like is the USB-On-the go port which allows it to masquerade as other USB devices; particularly useful for pentesting occasions. This feature is missing from the older pi 1/2/3. The pi zero is a little bit underpowered as a graphical desktop (use Pi 2/3) but command is workable.

...they are almost unavailable. This is the real pi. Tiny, low power consumption, sufficiently flexible. The 3 might be initially nicer, but face it: Speced too low to be a serious contender for many applications, speced too high for IoT scenarios. The zero fits it's spot: A very convenient IoT platform, less hassle than an adruino, the best of two worlds.
