“I recently bought the Pi model B with a power supply, Classic case, and a preinstalled XBMC card.
Setup was really straightforward mechanically and the OpenELEC/XBMC software works well out of the box. As for auxiliary devices, my Rapoo E9070 wireless keyboard was picked up immediately, but the Pi Hut WiFi adapter (8188CU chip) unfortunately was not. USB HDDs, memory sticks, and mp3 players have all been a breeze to use with the Pi. No mouse necessary to use XBMC by the way, which is a huge plus.
Springing for a better case than the Classic would be smart. The Classic works, but it lacks mounting options and the status lights have poor visibility.
Performance I would describe as sufficient, especially for the price. I can effortlessly play all the video and audio formats I use plus stream from Youtube, Twitch, the national TV channels' services, and more. The loading times are long compared to a PC or even a modern smartphone, but it's no bother on an HTPC.
I'm very happy with the Pi. Even with all the peripherals included, you can't really get a streaming box - never mind a PC - for the price from the store, and you can do more than just watch TV with the Pi! It's powerful enough and not energy hungry in the least, so it's the perfect "little helper" for the living room.
