Obviously not as good as one of the expensive permanent aerials but for mobile use it does the job

Nice item and works fine w/ the BP-filter and the ProStick running PiAware.

The antenna works well FOR THE PRICE. The max range I recieve is around 25nm. I tried putting it in the best possible places, and even when I put it outside (for testing purposes) on a roof that has a full unobstructed view of the sky, the range only went up to about 40nm. It's worth buying just to see some planes around you, and would be more worth it if you live near a popular airport. Overall it's worth it to invest into a better, outdoor antenna. I decided that I'm going to buy the Flightaware Antenna, and I'll be sure to leave a review under its page.

For the price this is a good "starter" aerial for anyone who like me is new to the world of ADS-B or software-defined radio in general. From a rather poor location (no view of the horizon) I can see planes out to 50 miles as long as they're at 30,000 ft or so, using the FlightAware Pro dongle and a Pi Zero W running the ADSBExchange software. At 25 miles it picks up most traffic except low-flying helicopters. It would also be great for a mobile setup to use at airfields and shows. Unless you're very lucky with your location, getting serious about ADS-B probably means putting your aerial on a roof or a pole. If you're going to that trouble, a more expensive aerial would be in order. Another reviewer pointed out that this is too long for a ¼-wave 1090 MHz antenna. That's true, but it might just be a ¾-wave design, because the central loading coil should make it electrically longer. I have no clue about antenna design so it would be good to hear from someone knowledgeable.
