“I got the “solder yourself” kit and it was a blast to put together. It’s currently on display in my office at work (you have to let people know what kind of nerd they’re dealing with). :-)
The software example is a little scant, but Googling around will allow you to find some interesting possibilities.”
“Excellent description for the soldering job. It was my first try with Python. I checked all applicaitions for Phyton - the last one, was the right one - so I needed a little bit longer to start. Have had a lot fun to change the sample program and re-designed the program completely new.”
“Very fun and interesting especially for small children.
I bought it in pre-soldered and my daughter finds sad that all LEDs are red.
I'm thinking to buy another not soldered and so she can choose the color of each LED.”
“Ordered both a pre soldered and a kit. Arrived promptly and after soldering a header on to a pi zero they were up and running using the example code to test them.
Now I just need to get a better understanding of Python to make some different patterns.
So why only four stars? Well I dropped a star for two reasons
1- as all the GPIO pins are used you don't seem to be able to add a button to control light patterns.
2- One of the LED's doesn't light using the example code
Other than that a great fun kit for less than £20.00 :-)”
“I would have given this project 5 stars, except for the following:
1) There were no instructions in the packaging
2) There should have been a small bottle of gold paint to touch-up the areas that had to be severed in order to assemble the tree
3) The tree would look so much nicer if it used multi-color LEDs instead of just red”
