I use my Pi as a media centre (XBMC) and am completely in love. The only thing that annoyed me was having to use the remote on my phone to control it (especially difficult if my phone rang, because I'd have to use another device to pause the film) so I had a quick look for the best method to hook my Pi up to my Harmony remote. The FLIRC dongle came highly recommended, and even though there were some minor teething issues these had been encountered and solved by other users so I had the FLIRC running perfectly within half an hour. I am now very happy indeed- I still use my phone as a remote occasionally to queue up multiple episodes, but other than that my Harmony and FLIRC do all the work.

It's the perfect companion for a universal remote control, especially the ones like my logitech harmony one. Everything in xbmc is now under control, and usable by everyone.

Hi, I bought the Flirc configured it in windows and it worked immediately in Linux xbmc. This is far the easiest way to get a remote working in linux
