“What a fabulous piece of kit! Took all of ten minutes to install and then flash the eeprom for nvme boot. Now running a 512gb Ediloca NVMe (not on tested list but can confirm it works) at gen 3 speed with a lovely batocera gaming setup. The SSD is far more resilient to accidental power off than the SD card ever was.
I like the included feet as the pi feels firmly sat on my desk and is not prone to sliding. The black and white pcb is also quite striking.
I would recommend this to anybody using a pi5.”
“This works excellently. It is very fast and not at all obtrusive. I recommend a higher current (5A at least) power supply and of course good heat management”
“I bought this along with a Patriot P300 SSD - it was delivered very quickly and, by following the guide on the Pimoroni website, it was installed and up and running in no time at all. It all works perfectly and the boot up and read/write times have improved from what was already impressive to pretty damn quick!. The NVMe base is good value for money as well being cheaper than currently available alternatives. Personally I prefer this to a HAT solution as it is completely out of the way and does no affect cooling fan air flow - all we need now is a Pibow case to match!”
“Everything feels well produced and the base fits perfectly on my Pi5, the ribbon cable is well designed and leave the card reader accessable for inserting a micro sd card.
The only thing what maked me a bit trouble was some issues after I installed my nvme drive.
I had some problems with the nvme controller, when I looked in the error log I found some controller restart or not found error messages.
After I added "usb_max_current_enable=1" it seems to be solved, everything work stable now.”
“Easy to install. Very reliably at PCIe Gen3 speeds, so I get 950MB/s from a cheap NVMe drive. Recently shipped Pi5 boards seem to have up to date firmware in their EEPROM, so it just works.”
