Brought the exhaust in October 2009, had it fitted by a powerflow specialist who made a down pipe to connect to the exhaust at the same time as fitting it.For the first 6months 2000mile, I thought the exhaust was great, I loved the sound, I will agree that it is loud but I liked that and it burbled nicely on tick over.Over the last few weeks the exhaust has become very rattley and tinny on tick over and up until 4000revs (sounds like the 19year old one I replaced). Only when i get to 4k revs does it sound like it used to. I believe one of the baffels has come loose inside causing the fault. I have emailed MX5 Parts tonight requesting to use the 5 year warranty and await their reply.I love the exhaust and its sound, I hope that I get a replacement part at no cost to myself and will be happy and more than willing to fit again.MX5 Parts I look forward to hearing from you. Beware!!! If you want a smart, classy looking item, don\'t be fooled by cheap prices! This appears to be a nice piece (it truly does look great out of the box, welds and finish superb visually, sapparently solid construction etc etc)of kit but is not, in my opinion, fit for purpose; it will not last anywhere near as long as you may imagine. Take my advice and spend 3 to 5 times as much on and Ansi or similar item, and save yourself a long running headache. You\'ll need to cut the rear bumper to make it fit, which in itself is not a great deal, but once you\'ve done that, when you then discover that the exhaust does not last, you\'ll kick yourself for having not bought a real quality item.On my second one of these now, 1st one replaced by MX5 parts as;a; the brackets that hold the exit pipes to the back box rusted away at the welds, resulting in a nasty rattling.b, all the silencer wadding blew out of the back box resulting in a total lack of any silencing whatsoever, after only approx 20,000 miles at most! Loved the \'naughty noisiness\' of the kit when 1st fitted, but as time went on and the silencer section lost any effectiveness, it became both unbearable and a liability when the boys in blue were around! This is a stainless steel item, so would appear to offer a long life due to its rust cheating capability - shame it doesn\'t last as a silencer though...Now on my second one, been on the car for about a year and a half, has done less than 15,000 miles, and it is awful...all silencing gone again, awful rattling emanating from inside the back box, just no fun at all any more.As it\'s been replaced once by MX5 parts I don\'t expect they\'ll offer to replace it again, and besides which, I\'m not sure I\'d want them to, it probably won\'t last any better than the 1st 2!!!Had almost identical problem with the silenced decat pipe which has now been replaced twice by MX5 parts, both times because they had both lost their silencing capabilities; when I cut open the last one, it was totally hollow, just a bloated tube with the perforated diffuser internals, no silencer material at all. It was made clear to me by MX5 Parts that they would replace this one as a gesture of goodwill, and wouldn\'t do so again if the replacement also fails. I\'m sure it will, so I\'ve no faith at all in these exhaust products. Real shame as MX5 parts has been superb in all other respects; service, delivery, availabilty, prices etc; but these items, well there\'s only one word for them...PANTS...Editors Note: We have these exhaust products for many years now and they have sold in great numbers with few problems. Given that the vehicle has now had two exhausts and a similar problem with a number of de-cat pipes it may well indicate an issue with the vehicle. If the vehicle has suffered with a misfire or fueling issue then the exhaust material will not survive. Given that these conditions will melt the ceramic honeycomb within a cat the packing materials used within the exhausts will also not survive.

Sounds awesome - fits great too.If you want to fit this to a later Mk1 with the 475mm CAT, then the easiest thing to do is go to the breakers yard and source a 440mm CAT - this will then allow it to fit correctly.A later 1.8 Mk1 with 440mm CAT fitted (instead of the 475mm) will still pass the UK emissions test - provided everything else is working properly!

im very pleased with this exhaust, it is very well finished and very easy to fit, i found the cutting out bit a little tricky, it doesnt really have to be perfect as you only really see it when your under the car.. some careful touchups with sandpaper and some touch up paint should sort out any cosmetics.. also when removeing your exhaust from the cat be very careful when unbolting it from your old exhaust.. when unbolting it it was being very difficault and in the end i sheared off the bolt from the cat, i had to drill it out and stick a new bolt thread through it.. the cat is full of coolant from my drill so its stinking a little at the moment, nevertheless i suggest if you want a dual exhaust system buy this one, i am very happy with the sound and the car does have a nice improvement to acceleration etc! thanks a lot mx5parts for this great buy

Got my exhaust Thursday, couldn't get the old one of! In the end managed to get a firend who's in the trade ti fit it, all I can say is awesome! Sounds fantastic, the guys who complained about the noise should drive honda jazz's. The mx5 is a sports car, now it sounds like one.Si aged 44 and a proud petrol head.

This is an extraordinary exhaust for the cost, really great value. Our resident mechanic fitted this and just loved it, said it was great quality, and he's fussy, says that it fitted without any problems. It looks great and has completely transformed the looks at back of our Eunos V Special. I would really recommend putting De-cat pipe on with this as the performance has improved greatly. The noise is lovely at idle or cruising but through the gears especially 2nd and 3rd under acceleration will never fail to put a smile on your face. Makes my kids laugh every time. Excellent product well played.
