“Fairly long review, as I know I found other people's experiences useful when choosing a cup. Also a little odd to write a review for such a personal product in public forum! Regardless, at the present time, I have used my cup for two cycles. The main driving factor for me personally purchasing a cup, was the reduction of waste. I found the concept of a cup a bit revolting, but was persuading by a friend who had one and spoke highly of it.Already I'm a convert. I find it easy to use, easy to change over, and fairly hassle free. That being said, there are a few caveats to this. Firstly, it's very intimate to use. I find that (having finally mastered insertion) it's necessary to 'fiddle about' with it inside to get the cup to open and form a seal. I would imagine this experience to differ for everyone depending on their 'interior design', but it could be a little off putting. You'd definitely need to be comfortable with this if you want to use a cup, I think. Secondly, I cannot imagine removing it anywhere other than in a shower tray to be honest, so will always time my use to ensure I wouldn't have to change it anywhere but either my bathroom or in a shower. Possibly a public toilet with a sink, where you wouldn't be disturbed. I can't remove mine other than in a squatting position, which I don't find a problem at all, but I wouldn't want to do this in a public toilet cubicle. With planning, I can't imagine a scenario where I would need to though, to be honest, as the cup lasts longer than tampons or towels would. So far, I can't manage more than four days consecutive use, as I am still getting used to it. Mooncup even advise it may take 2-3 cycles to adjust. I personally think this is normal and I'm not disappointed; for me, it's because I feel a bit 'bruised' by the 'fiddling' inside upon insertion and removal, and don't feel it necessary to overdo it. I fully expect it to be much more normal by my next cycle and manage to maintain using the cup throughout.I would recommend the cup to my friends without hesitation, but would caution it can take some getting used to, does require intimate 'fiddling' (so be aware/comfortable with this), and personally wouldn't want to change it anywhere in public where there wasn't an easily cleanable floor and running water in the same area/cubicle. These are my personal views and experiences. It looks like some people have none of these issues, so it could be that the cup is carefree for most. I found insertion took a few goes to get used to, but it is fairly intuitive once you get the hang of it. Never had an issue removing it, but this is another time where you have to be fairly intimate with yourself and I have caught myself in sensitive areas a couple of times. Another aspect that you'll get used to, but for me a reason why after four days so far it was enough. I could have continued, but felt I would rather give it a rest.”

“Mixed experience using this.- bit tricky to get in at first but improved quickly- messy to get out. Definitely better to do at home.- on the last couple of days it seemed to go higher up and was trickier to get out. Pushing down with my vaginal muscles worked to help shift it.- lasted much longer than tampon. Useful on heavier flow days.- on these days less chance of leakage than with tampon. Seemed to feel 'heavy' when it was ready to remove.- forgot about it when it was in. Comfortable.- interesting to see flow more clearly. But seemed to stain toilet bowl more!Overall an interesting experience and worth it overall. I especially appreciated being able to wear it longer without leakage and not having to carry tampons around. I'll get used to the rest I think.I put it in on the first day of my period and didn't use a single tampon or pad (just a fabric pad backup which I rinsed each evening) - that feels like an achievement!”

“So after having heavy periods for a few years now I finally got fed up with changing tampons literally every hour for first few days then down to every few hours for next three days. So I ordered this yesterday and it arrived today I already have my period so started using it straight away. All I can say is it's brilliant I was worried about getting it in place properly and leaking and then getting it back out. But it's been so easy to use and no leaking at all and I've not needed to empty it for 6 hours which is amazing. It's so comfortable you nearly forget your on your period. I even sneezed and coughed and it stayed in place also a miracle for me lol.And just think of the money savings I usually spend about £4 a month on sanitary towels and tampons and this will save me so much money.I never leave reviews but this little item is fantastic and worth it's money and I wish id brought it years ago.”

“Cannot believe I am 40 and have only just discovered this little gem.. would give this product a 10/10. Thought it would be difficult to insert. It wasn't at all you, simply fold it in half and then half again and it finds it's natural place. No leaks, no cramps. Didn't even notice it was in once it was inserted. Don't be put off by how big it looks, it looks like it will be uncomfortable. It isn't at all. Very simple to clean and there seems to be no odour like when you use other sanitary wear. I have been converted and won't ever us anything else now. I would invest in the latex holder to keep it in while you aren't using it. Seems more hygienic than the little bag you get with it. Overall a top product. I keep some feminine wipes in my bag in case there are any spillages while taking the mooncup out. But other than that no leakages at all.”

“I ordered this as I was going away travelling and I have been wanting to move to the MoonCup for a while. For starters, make sure you get the right size ( info on the website) as if your mooncup is too big it can be uncomfortable. I really like the mooncup and I love that I am not harming the environment, being unfairly taxed and I am not wasting money on tampons. However, I would say that when you need to change the mooncup, it can be a bit messy so it is best if you change it in a toilet which has a sink in the cubicle. Not to get too graphic, but try not to jolt when removing it and try to clean it as often as you can. Also make sure you sterilize the mooncup in between uses in boiling water. Also do not cut the stem off the funnel until you feel comfortable removing the MooncupOther than that I was pretty impressed and I will continue to use this product!”

“This one didn't fit me, so I'm giving it less of a star, but the product still came in really good time, I then ordered the other size of mooncup which is great, the mooncup products are definitely ones I would recommend, just read about the size you're buying because I didn't and that's why I ordered the wrong one”

“I have always suffered from very heavy periods and needed to use super plus extra Lillets as well as a pad because within an hour and a half the tampon would start leaking through...That was when I decided to buy myself a Mooncup, after having looked at them in boots for quite some weeks, feeling undecided.Best decision I made!!! I use the tulip fold to insert it and then run my finger around the rim to ensure the cup has unfolded and thus created the seal. I can now go out and not worry about leaks for hours on end. I usually clean the cup every 6-8 hours (that part can be a bit messy, as when you break the seal and remove the cup you will see your own menstrual flow, which is actually NOT all blood! It's only about 50%blood and 50% clear or straw coloured fluid, which is the broken down endometrium. You will get a little bit of blood on your fingers too. But just give your mooncup a good rinse under the tap (I prefer to use the hot water tap) and the fold it again and reinsert it. Oh, also, unlike tampons which sit next to the cervix, the mooncup sits close to the entrance of the vagina.I have been using the Mooncup for three cycles now, it cost me €28, as I live in Ireland. It has paid for itself now. From my next cycle onward it is actually making money for me, hehe... €8 per cycle to be precise.I know my review isn't as long or extravagant as a lot of the others here but writing reviews isn't my strong point. I just tell how it was for me”

“First time for me to try anything like this. I've never really liked wearing pads or tampons as they feel drying or bulky, sometimes they've leaked into my pants too. I tried this as soon as it arrived (after boiling it for 5 mins in a saucepan to clean it.I'm not a squeamish person so forgive my very open review!I wet the cup and used the tulip fold to insert it, worked much better than the c fold which I couldn't push in at all... I hadn't trimmed the stem as I wanted to try it first and see what was needed. It wasn't very easy to insert, and I was convinced I'd done it wrong as I could feel it, and felt the need to pee straight after I stood up, but it was a false alarm...I left the cup in for 6 hours and although it wasn't uncomfortable once it settled in, i could feel it down there- maybe just the stem.Getting it out was quite tricky, it seemed to have moved quite high and I could barely grasp the stem. I squatted on the bathroom floor and used finger and thumb the grab it. Fingers have to go right in there I'm afraid! There was some strong suction and I wasn't sure I'd get it out but I wiggled and pulled on it for a while and managed to get it low enough to squeeze the cup in to release some suction. There were a few gross squelching noises and I was afraid I'd squeeze it and make a mess but I managed to jiggle it out. There was a long stringy bit of clot connecting me to the cup which was gross, and a slight aroma- I guess I've never smelt myself like that before but the cup showed about 3mls of blood (it holds up to 15mls and has markers).I emptied and washed it and it went in a little easier now I know what I'm doing. Mine still goes up quite high, I don't even need to cut the stem as that's just inside me enough, perhaps with practice I'll learn to keep it low and may need to cut the stem but I'm pleased so far that I have the device and look forward to being more connected and in control of my body.”
