Oak 'D' Tin Whistle
Made with solid brass, the whistle is then triple nickel plated to give it a wonderful lustre. A great starter whistle, it has a bright tone that has a bit of an 'edge' in the upper register, and requires less air than many other inexpensive whistles.
Length: 11.6"

At first I loved it, but it doesn't take long before you outgrow the instrument and it starts to sound rather windy and unrefined. Granted that master whistlers, like the fine people at McNeela or John Obrien could play it and make it sound good no problem, however for a beginner it's probably best to invest in something of a higher quality. If you're just dabbling then by all means the Oak D is pretty good, but if you thinkyou might get serious, go for a Wild Irish or Killarny or Tony Dixon model. You can tune the Oak D but you need some hot water and grease. Great for dabbling but you will outgrow the instrument pretty quickly.

At first glance and first feel I was taken with the Oak in the key of D. I'll need more practice to have any substance behind my opinions. But the build quality is superb for the price and as a beginner's whistle I don't think you can go wrong. McNeela were on time with the shipping and I'm pleased with the product.

Good whistle.. Liked it much better than the Generation D I bought recently. Solid without being too heavy. Good value.

A fine beginner’s whistle It has a much nicer tone than the typical “toy whistles” you see in gift packs, so it’s perfect for someone who wants to try to learn without spending too much as the tone will not be discouraging! Also I can never say enough about how much I love McNeela’s service! Thank you as always for fueling my greatest passion!

Was surprised how good this whistle sounded. It is also quite sturdy without being heavy. There is a lot said about which whistles are best, but you can spend a lot of money. This is a very playable whistle, easy to get into the second octave. For most people, especially those starting out, this would be a good buy. It is plenty loud enough under normal useage ( unless you really want to deafen the neighbours and the cat)!
