The item I ordered had an advertised internal measurement of 40cm it is in fact 37/38cm which makes it too small for my needs.

I've got worse whistles in my collection but I doubt I'll be playing this one again. It doesn't feel good in my hands and I find the second octave lacks clarity, especially when jumping to it from the first. It certainly looks pretty but it just doesn't deliver. The original Wild Whistle is a much better buy.

Hi Charles, Thanks for the feedback and sorry you didn’t get on with the wooden version. Fit and feel can vary a lot from player to player but it's unfortunate about the jump into the second octave and the clarity. We offer a 30 day no questions asked money back guarantee. Please email service@mcneelamusic.com to initiate a return and we will sort it quickly.

I'll start with the good, because it is significant. Though I have no other experience playing any kind of Bouzouki whatsoever, much less a boutique one, I have been a professional guitarist for 30 years and can generally pick out characteristics of quality materials and craftmanship. This thing sounds good. It doesn't have that special resonance and clarity that my more high end acoustic instruments have, but it is punchy, loud, and warm sounding. It also arrived perfectly intonated and with the action exactly where I'd want it. Though I do plan to have it professionally set up at some point, many complained that the action was "way" to high. I did not experience that. It is fun to play and comfortable to hold. Functionally and sonically, it is definitely what I'd hope for from $500+ instrument. On par with say, a well set up Mexican Tele. Now for the not so good. When something is marketed as "premium" I do expect some degree of extra care of construction, electronics, etc. If this was in the $500-600 range, I'd not complain, and acknowledge that "premium" is merely a marketing term. But when I end up paying closer to $850 for an instrument, I expect it be blemish free, have decent hardware and be "plug and play" as far as the electronics. Sadly, this bouzouki falls short in that regard. There are numerous irregularities (as in legit divets) and blemishes on the neck (though the body and headstock a quite nice), it has a 3 piece neck(!) which I associate with MUCH cheaper "beginner" instruments, the tuners are sub-par and stick then over-tune the string once you get past the sticking point, and the bridge is nothing special. The onboard pickup and preamp is garbage. I mean, I researched and found this exact one on Alibaba for less that $15. I regret not going for the non "premium" version for this reason alone, as a transducer and external preamp would be muuuuuuuuch better than this system. At full volume, insane amounts of gain are still required to get this anywhere near the volume of ANY of my other electro-acoustic instruments. I am on the hunt for a similar sized onboard preamp to replace this one and paired with a transducer and not the horrible piezo pickup in there. (I almost wonder if I got a faulty one). The case is fine. Again, to me this thing sounds great. On par with my, say, Mexican made Cordoba nylon string guitar. Not Boutique, but satisfying to hear and play. It is fun to play, stays in tune, and is set up well out of the box. It should sell for $500/600. I have no idea where it was made. It says Dublin, Ireland but there is no "made in". I'm suspecting China? If I wasn't in the US with Cheeto's stupid tarriffs and all that BS, I'd probably try to exchange for the other one, I guess and just go acoustic. I'd give it 3 1/2 stars if I could. 4 stars for sound, 3 stars for craftsmanship.

The Wild Irish Rose Whistle is very nice. I was making progress with my complimentary days of teaching, but then… my email was bombarded by vendors selling courses. So it kind of put a chill on why I bought the whistle. So I’ve sat it aside for now…

First off I am glad the person who left the 2nd review was able to get a great price on their Bravura Il Cannone Violin. Update to review left 3 months ago by my mother... parts of this review will be from our communication to McNeela. Initially, the Bravura Il Cannone violin presented well, but issues quickly arose while my niece played, including tuning pegs popping causing loose strings. My mother was in contact with McNeela Music every step of the way, but communication back took days or longer sometimes. My mother took the violin to a local luthier, who initially attributed the issue to the violin's newness. Subsequent to multiple returns six, to be precise the luthier theorized that the underlying cause may be insufficient friction between the peg and peg hole, improper string winding or humidity changes from Ireland to the USA, prompting a referral for my mother to a colleague with over 50 years of experience, who discovered the pegs needed "reworking" and the G and E strings were "cutting into the nut". While the violin was unstrung further inspection revealed a 2 1/4-inch crack under the tailpiece, attributed to possible humidity change in shipping and the saddle. This was not expected from a new violin. The luthier advised my mother that the crack and other problems could be repaired on the violin, noting the crack would lower the violin's value.. My mother was beside herself with worry, uncertain of the best course of action. My niece had already been told multiple times that it was unacceptable for her to be without a violin, given her numerous musical commitments and educational pursuits. My mother was still trying to communicate with McNeela Music and hadn't recieved a viable answer and my recommendation to wait and evaluate how this company would manage this situation on #104209, and despite understanding that buying another violin was not financially justifiable at this time, My mother nonetheless purchased four additional violins!! My mother also granted permission for the repair to the Bravura Il Cannone, although she was disheartened by the potential loss of value. Nonetheless, my niece was enamored with the tone. Finally, aftwr repairs are made Sean reaches out with an unsettling response. I wish I could attach photos, this has been a sad situation

Hi Brandy, I acknowledge that our communication could have been better on this, and we’ve reviewed the case in detail. While it’s difficult to closely monitor every long email thread, I can see Séan tried his best to help, offering a return for refund or replacement, covering return shipping, and extending the return window well beyond our standard policy. We’ve reviewed the photos of the top crack you sent. The violin did not leave our workshop with any visible crack, particularly of that size. Given the location (under the tailpiece near the saddle/center seam), the most likely cause is environmental stress, particularly heat/dryness during transit or local climate swings on it's way to Montana, which can open seams or create “saddle”/center-seam cracks, and can also lead to peg slippage until the instrument re-stabilises. Even so, we understand why you authorised local repairs to get your niece playing again. Third-party work sits outside our usual process without advance notice, but we genuinely appreciate the pressure you were under. We’ve tightened packing and climate-buffering steps for long-haul shipments. I’ve offered a goodwill gesture directly by email and will continue to prioritise your case. Thank you for sticking with us while we improve. Kind regards, Emma

Hi, I recently made a couple of instrument purchases. The first was the Irish Celt tenor banjo. I’m very pleased with the banjo. The quality was evident and the cosmetic changes to the previous model were very well thought out and done very nicely. So I decided to try the A style premium mandolin next. When it arrived it seemed to be well done and arrived in great shape. Due to illness I wasn’t able to spend any time with it until very recently. Well, as I started the learning process I started noticing some problems with my beautiful new mandolin. First of all it was obviously not set up as it should have been. First the G and D tuners were so tight it was impossible to turn them to tune the strings. The tuners are so bad the mandolin is constantly out of tune. I thought the new(?) strings were still stretching but they would have settled down by now. Next the G and D strings are too large for the bridge string guide holes. No setup was obviously done to properly seat the strings halfway down resting in the string slots. Next the tailpiece is installed on a slant which is causing acoustic vibrations because several strings are in contact with the tailpiece cover. This also has resulted in making it extremely difficult to remove the tailpiece cover to install new strings. I’ve tried several times to slide the cover back but it wouldn’t budge. I’m not going to use extreme force to remove the cover because I’m concerned that I might damage the wood body of the mandolin contact point. So now I have to take the mandolin to an expensive local luthier once I find a good one and have him do a total setup including properly sizing the bridge slots and then replace the tuners and also replace the tailpiece. Before I’m done I would probably have spent several hundred dollars to bring it up to the basic shape it should have been in when I opened its shipping box. So I am disappointed McNeela shipped my mandolin to me without doing some basic setup. A basic setup would have caught all these problems without a doubt. My opinion of McNeela has been damaged by this mess. James Casey, Oak Lawn, Illinois USA

I invested in the Bravura Il Cannone Violin for my 12-year-old granddaughter after her orchestra teacher informed me that the school violin was hindering her progress due to its unsatisfactory sound quality. Locally, we explored numerous options. I was apprehensive about making an online purchase, especially from another country. However, she meticulously evaluated various violins online through Messenger calls and subsequently discovered McNeela Music on YouTube. After repeated comparisons of six different violins, her final decision narrowed down to the Bravura Il Cannone Violin and the McNeela Virtuoso Violin. Since acquiring the Bravura Il Cannone Violin, her progress has been remarkable. In fact, she has been offered positions in the Youth Fiddle group, Community Orchestra, Youth Symphony Orchestra, and the school's High Strings Orchestra. Although I would have preferred to purchase the McNeela Virtuoso Violin as well, given the Symphony Orchestra's requirement for a backup instrument, the Bravura Il Cannone Violin was a substantial investment for me, especially considering I raise seven grandchildren and have faced financial constraints following the loss of my husband to COVID-19. In the future, I intend to purchase the McNeela Easy String Violin for her brothers. McNeela Music made the experience of purchasing from them so easy.

I wasn't happy with this concertina. Within a few days of playing the buttons started to sound without being depressed - which makes playing impossible since there is always another note playing whatever you play. I was disappointed.

Hi Howard, Thanks for your review, and we’re really sorry to hear about the issue you experienced with your concertina. That’s certainly not the standard we aim for. We actually reached out to you back in October to arrange a return so we could repair or replace the instrument for you, and we’re still very happy to do that now. Just let us know, and we’ll cover all return costs to make the process easy. We’d love the chance to make this right—please feel free to get in touch when it suits. Best regards, The McNeela Team
