Humax FVP-5000T Freeview Play Recorder-2TB Reviews

It is slow to respond, to the broadband and to the handset. As said previously, the programme guide is slow to respond and cumbersome to use - why use one click when you can make it 4. it will not run Britbox. The on-screen keyboard vanishes if you try to search on YouTube. The guide often says one programme but takes you to something different. It is so slow and awkward to use I will never now record that many programmes that I need to use all the tuners, which was the main selling point for this box. I had (still have) an older Humax Freeview box which was far easier to use but doesn't connect to the internet. YouTube was easier to use, but they stopped making these boxes. A great disappointment. Not to be recommended.

Recorder is O.K. However Humax failed to respond to my complaint regarding my previous box which failed two weeks out of guarentee, they also e-mailed me with a discount voucher which proved to be invalid as soon as it arrived. I have used Humax boxes for years , but the company respance to my complaint is disgracefull

We bought this pricipally as a Freeview Plus tuner, the recording facility being an additional useful function. It arrived next day, was simple to set up and works fine. Having also got a FVP-5000T, I find the navigation and use of the FVP-5000T very difficult, with options difficult to locate. "Series record" has to be hunted for in sub-menus. There doesn't appear to be an option to organise recordings into directories, eg put all the James Bond films together. In other words, the firmware needs to be completely re-written to make it all much more intuitive. We shall be keeping the FVP-5000T!

Worked very well except for one flaw that I discovered, it would often truncate recordings imported from my Humax HDR FOX T2 when copying files from an external HDD. I would have given it 5 stars if the copying process worked properly, no doubt a software update should be able to fix this problem.

Generally very pleased. Previously had an old PVR-9300T. Operational features and capabilities have moved on significantly with the FVP-5000T. Quite a lot of people comment on the slow processor in this unit though. It certainly does take time to switch between operations and update the screen. I've had one experience of my unit freezing whilst trying to access BBC iPlayer from FreeView Play and of not displaying BBC iPlayer and other internet services. This was overcome by turning the unit off and back on. Guide displays with a background showing the current TV program - makes for difficult reading of the screen. Would like an option to display against a plain background. Integration of Guide with Catch Up is very useful. Generally a lot of thought seems to have gone into the user interface.

I’m really pleased with this item. It is really easy to install, easy to operate with most of the same functionality as the main subscription providers boxes. I was paying roughly £27 a month on TV services, this box has more storage space (2TB) so this should pay for itself after 9-10 months and save me a bucket load of money in the long term.

Great to have 4 channels recording at once however there are shortcomings and glitches apparent. Search facility is fine if you know what you are looking for but why on earth is genre search restricted to 3 to 4 hours. Total waste of time using it if you want a quick view of your interests for the day e.g. films if going out for the day or to work. Indeed I am having to resort to going through the hours of the day channel by channel to see what I might otherwise be missing - it can take 20 minutes especially as it only lets you look at 2 hour slots. Catch up TV is also disappointing in terms of searching, if its not something being promoted then I have yet to understand how to find it Also when setting record for a film, i.e. a single occurrence I have found it to have been recorded again when it next comes on. Finally its difficult to know when it has been 'switched off' if doing so when it is actually recording and I come back hours later or wake up in the night to find the disc is still whirling.
